2019 UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN DISTANCE LEARNING CENTRE INTERNATIONAL STAKEHOLDERS’ WORKSHOP AND CONFERENCE


The 2019 edition of the University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre (UIDLC) Open Distance Learning conference has been scheduled to hold between 28, October - 1, November, 2019. The theme of the conference is “QUALITY ASSURANCE FOR PARITY OF ESTEEM IN OPEN AND DISTANCE LEARNING”.

Educational planners, administrators, academics, and policy makers now put Open Distance Learning (ODL) into consideration in their activities. This is owing to the growth of distance learning and technology-enhanced learning in contemporary times. However, distance education delivery, particularly the aspect of evaluation which claims equality in the products, when compared with the face to face mode have been under intense attack by academics who are of the opinion that quality is being compromised through the ODL mode of educational delivery. Most ardent believers in the traditional face to face mode erroneously posit that products on the two modes can never be the same, hence the parity of esteem policy by most dual mode universities.

The theme for the 2019 UIDLC International Stakeholders’ Conference is structured to deliberate on how dual mode institutions implement the parity of esteem policy. The question seeks to answer the question of how comparable products of the ODL mode are with their counterparts on the conventional mode when placed on the same scale. These among other issues would be discussed by ODL experts at the three day conference.

From the foregoing, the University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre calls for conference papers for the 2019 edition of the conference in pursuance and entrenchment of parity of esteem. The conference will hold at the UIDLC Computer-Based Testing Centre, Ajibode Extension, University of Ibadan.
