Residents of Araromi Obu and Ikale communties in the Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, who recently clashed with the Araromi Obu community in the state, have said they will support the peace moves initiated by the state government to end the crisis.

No fewer than four persons were killed while many were injured and property worth millions of naira destroyed in the communal clash caused by land dispute.

The state government had set up a five-man committee, headed by Mr Tunde Atere, to investigate the crisis.

Speaking with journalists on Saturday, the Chairman of the Araromi Obu Development Council, Senator Omolola Meroyi, insisted that the community was worst hit by the clash, having lost two persons and property worth millions of naira.

On the allegation by the traditional rulers of Ikaleland that the state Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, was partial in the handling of the crisis, Meroyi said Akeredolu had played a fatherly role in ensuring that peace returned to the concerned communities.

He said, “We commend Governor Akeredolu for his prompt intervention which has resulted in the restoration of peace to Araromi Obu and its environs.

“We all support the measures taken by the state government to bring lasting solution to Araromi Obu and its environs, particularly the newly constituted panel of enquiry to ascertain the causes of the crisis.

“Araromi Obu people will continue to maintain peace in spite of persistent provocation.”
