You are 100 % correct. In 1989, l assisted a friend and classmate, Friday Okosun wrote a love letter to Bunmi his landlord's daughter and also our classmate. Bunmi took the letter to her father. Later that day, a police sergeant (Friday's father) came to our house with the letter l wrote. Friday denied the letter and his father supported him that he was not as inteligent as the writer. The police officer requested for our notebooks. They were all confused because the handwriting was diferent from ours. I thanked God l changed my handwriting while writing it. My family knew l wrote for him. They didnt beat me but cautioned me.

but you forgot to mention that those born in the 70s/80s are the parents of this new generation. so from my point of view the 70s/80s is a failed genetation

a child can be well brought up and still go rogue on their parents,so that submission is not entirely true. If you had said the 70/80s parents failed to adapt to parental challenges i would have agreed, cos the challenges facing kids now, were non existent in those days.Except you are trying to imply that an 80s parent that can barely operate a torch light phone taught their kids internet fraud .

we need to preach the gospel to young people. Their heart sways like the wave of the sea. We need to go and bring the children back 'home'.

The present time has made children and people so emotionally weak and soft, now we always read of students committing sucide because of a mere heartbreak or financial difficulties or even because they failed an exam or courses in the Uni. Back then people were stronger emotionally and can carry on with life irrespective of the situations they face.

If you had your childhood in the 70's or 80's, you should be able to recall and relate with the way life was back then and now. This post is not out to paint any generation bad but as a realist, I owe myself a duty to state the bitter truth and nothing but the bitter truth; there is a high scale of decay in our social system.

Then Vs Now...

1) Back then, someone's child was like the child of the neighborhood. You could easily correct an erring child as an adult even in the presence of the parents. Today, you hardly can. You dare not shout at a child in the presence of the parents even if he/she erred! My brother, the kind eye wen the pikin mama go dey look you ehn, cold go catch you! This contributes a lot to why many children bahave immorally at surprising ages! These days, most young couples are just fit to reproduce but not fit to be parents.

2) Back then, when a child failed his/her exams in school, be sure he/she would sleep at the neighbour's house that night. Why you go fail? Today, there are so many mushroom private schools competing for parents' attention. Nobody fails anymore. If a child performs poorly and fails, the class teacher must explain to the robust, well-fed, money-conscious proprietor why the child failed, even if the child does not know that fish lives in water.

3) Back then, a secondary school student dare not visit his/her assumed lover at home. As a guy, you go stand for about ten buildings from the babe papa house, then send a 'Good Samaritan' child in the area to call her. If you are a girl, no even think about am. After the boy mama finish you with mouth, you go trace your mama house with speed! Today, even kids in Jss 3 organise parties in hotels around town, pop pills and smoke skunk.

4) Kids in the 70's/80's used suwe, flying kites, riding wheels and tyres, ludo, otori (hide and seek), Tales by Moonlight, wording (jokes), etc to pass time. Today, kids use porn and online betting to pass time.

5) Back then, you would become the envy of the neighborhood when you gain admission to study in the university. Area people go be like: 'Shuo! I hear say Mosco dor enter Uniben o!' Today, nobody gives a hoot whether you are in Migwor University or University of Vrendo! You must buy Benz first! Na wetin area wan know to calculate your 'success'.

6) Back then, to see a babe pant hard pass to enter USA with Donald Trump as president; you fit date babe for six months, you never taste the Oripopo. Today, sex is negotiated freely and openly as if na crayfish market. Women now shamelessly place price tags on themselves on social media for anyone who can afford the bill.

7) In the 70's and 80's, young women who exposed their bodies indecently were frowned at. Today, we now celebrate them shamelessly! This is one of the reasons why many young women now hide under the movie industry to prostitute themselves. Oh, I remember folks like Bukky Ajayi, Rachael Oniga, Christy Essien-Igbokwe (Zebrudaya's movie wife), etc. God bless these women even in death!

Nostalgic feelings...

those times sweet eh the music then nko, golden oldies, i miss those days o,

Contrary to your opinion, I believe that a goodp world is a world of justice, honesty, charity, chastity and other virtues.

If tech is added to the above then it's a better world. If the above are absent it is a bad world. If tech is present and the above are absent it is a worse world.

Tech is only a tool in the hand of men. Good men use it to make the world better, bad men use it to make the world worse

What you just described here is an utopia...

There is bad and good in both generations. Some women used to abort like passing faeces back then too. We have girls on humans today. Let's cherish any generation we are pls . I know many good girls and guys today pls. No matter the moral decadence, there would always be those that mind the way they live

that no 1 tho, the reason nowadays's parents will not be comfortable with you scolding their kids doing the wrong thing is that, they dont want their kids to go through the training you went through; the training that did not yield any positive result to reflect on the socio-economic system/growth of the nation at large.
egbona, who those dullings help. the ones that trained us back then are still the ones leading us right now and corruption is the only legacy that we are enjoying right now!
moreover, why do you need to shout on kid in place of correcting. so as to create fear in him or her right? you are missing it! go and check out short videos where elite folks correct kids by informing and showing them the dangers in doing the wrong things and the benefits in doing the right thing, they patiently do this and achieve pleasant results without necessarily shouting!

Even in the olden days our parent does that, its not the result of their kind of upbringing that bring about corruption but the Ego and greediness nature of human being no generation is an exception
