Most gas shop owners don't take any safety measures, no fire extinguisher, no training, no ventilation.

Imagine some idiots store cylinders in shops and lock it up. And most of those gas shops are located in residential area.

How did a gas fire kill an old woman who came to a city for Omugwo? It happened that on the cold dry harmattan morning some years ago, a gas 'boy' was filing up gas for a customer and while he tried to tilt his gas cylinder upside down so that gas can flow into his customer's cylinder, the cylinder fell and the gas hose cut and the dry harmattan air was in the direction of a nearby woman who roasted yam and fish - BOOM! Fire started in an instant and spread so fast to another shop.

Meanwhile, the old woman was inside her daughter's (her daughter was briefly away with her grandchild) shop, apparently unaware of what happened. Before you can say, Jack Obukowho Chinwetalu, the woman got killed, her daughter who tried to rescue her out of the shop got burnt badly.

The matter was reported to the police and the gas boy was arrested. One thing led to another, the boy was released, that it wasn't intentional bla bla bla.

People need to know that gas is not stuff to play with, if you don't have the necessary facility you'll he running at your own risk. I think there should be licence for all those that deal with gas.

You are thinking what I am thinking. Ignorance is a disease. Some cylinders could just explode and we will start wasting resting in peace.

Lagos state government needs to start banning these gas shops. They just open shop without any safety measures.
