The National Youth Service Corps has said some foreign-trained graduates, who participated in the recently concluded 2018 Batch C Stream 1 Service Year, will have to present themselves for scrutiny before they can be given their certificates of national service.

The NYSC said on its official Twitter handle on Friday the graduates were particularly from universities in Benin Republic and other African countries. It said they were to report at the corps’ national headquarters in Abuja on Monday, October 14 for scrutiny.

The scheme did not state the number of the graduates.

The corps on Thursday held its passing-out parade for the 2018 Batch C, Stream 1 corps members across the 36 states and the FCT which signalled the end of national service for the corps members.

The NYSC said on Friday, “Foreign-trained ex-corps members, who participated in the recently concluded 2018 Batch C, Stream 1 Service Year with questionable degrees from universities in Benin Republic and some other African countries, and have not been issued certificates are to present themselves for further scrutiny.

Those concerned are to report at NYSC National Directorate Headquarters, Abuja, from Monday, October 14.

The management of NYSC wishes to reiterate that only qualified Nigerian graduates will be issued certificates of national service in line with the provisions of the NYSC Act 2004.

This is just as 11 corps members will be repeating the national service in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and in Nasarawa State for leaving their places of primary assignment without obtaining permission.

The NYSC authorities told our correspondent exclusively on Thursday that 18 corps members in the FCT were brought before a disciplinary committee for absconding and two would undergo an extension. Meanwhile, nine corps members would repeat the service for the same offence in Nasarawa.

The NYSC FCT Public Relations Officer, Mrs Comfort Jackson, said, “On Thursday in the FCT, we passed out 5,058 corps members. Two of them had an extension of service.

There were 18 corps members who absconded in the FCT and their cases are with the disciplinary committee.

Meanwhile, 26 corps members in Kano State have been asked to repeat their service year for absconding from their places of primary assignment.

The state NYSC Coordinator, Alhaji Ladan Baba, disclosed this on Friday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Kano.

Baba said any corps member found guilty of absconding from their place of primary assignment for at least three months would repeat the service year.

He added that the NYSC had also extended the service year of 26 corps members from between one and four months for being absent from their place of primary assignment without permission.
