GistTeller:
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Port Harcourt Zonal Office have arrested five suspected fake Satellite Television Operators.

The suspects: Davidson Onuoha; Emeka Samuel; Eze Francis Sunny Amadi, Terkura Zungwem Verinica and Evangelist Alex Umanah were arrested in a simultaneous raid on their companies on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at three different locations in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Their arrest followed several weeks of intense intelligence on the suspects, their residences and operations by operatives of the EFCC.

The suspects were allegedly rebroadcasting content of the Digital Satellite Television( DSTV) illegally in their companies. The companies are CANTV at Aba Road, Port Harcourt, METROTV at Rivers State Television Complex, Eagle Avenue, Iriebe, Port Harcourt and Cable Trends Limited( CTL) at Eleme Junction, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Items recovered from the suspects include GOTV Decoders; Star times Decoders; DSTV Decoder; Free to Air Decoder (Strong), Consat Decoder and One Direct Decoder. Others are Encoder, Switches, Central Processing Units( CPU) and Monitors.

The suspects would be charged to court when investigations are concluded. Port Harcourt's Zonal Head of the EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa cautions the general public to be wary of the operations of illegal Satellite Operators stressing that there are rising cases of such activities across the country.

Nairalanders should not be deceived these are legitimate Cable TV operators in Port-Harcourt. DSTV has always had issues with them because they broadcast football matches.

No na. Kwese sports and supersports have exclusive rights to televise premier league in africa and these cable tv operators illegally broadcast beinsports and canal sports instead. Bein has no rights in africa, so on what authority are these operators broadcasting EPL games?

They have nothing to teach.

That's how someone said Evans should be released to teach the police about kidnapping.

Nigerians are very intelligent people. Very skilled young men. The level of technology that goes on in the East if properly harnessed will usher Nigeria into a global industrial force.

Let's assume the North brings agriculture to the table, the West, financial services, and the East, industry and technology. Imagine what a country Nigeria would be. I give up on our leaders.

I think what Nigeria should do is to establish a NATIONAL INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY COMMISSION AND INNOVATION CENTRE, the commission will encourage youths who av good ideas to submit proposals, call them to defend it and on their merit give them what they need to startup or the necessary assistance. With this lots of Nigerians will buy into such opportunity and they won't go into crime

But the moment their efforts are not being encourage the next thing they think about is crime.

WHICH WAY NAIJA?

before we throw away the baby with the bath water understand what's happening here. These guys have their own cable company but broadcasting contents that dstv own the rights, like the premier English premier league by showing bien sports and other sport channels. The major offence here is if they are properly licensed to operate as cable service providers or not. It is not the job of Efcc to go after them and the issue of viewing rights should be decided by a court. When we had HItv no body checked the tribe of the owner, when tstv gave us hope we were all praying they should start operations so that we can enjoy. Let's stop all this trabalistic comments anytime we see issues like this, this is just dstv using the Efcc to check competitions

Probably multichoice were loosing subscribers from Port Harcourt. What do you expect when many of these so called engineers broadcast their service on nairaland especially on satellite tv second. I guess their advert campaign to lure their subscribers failed because many were using alternatives hence a thorough investigation
