ghana "weaving"? what's being woven: a basket or what?
or do you mean like a sew-in kinda weave?
Re: I Need Pics Of Ghana Weaving by NymphoQin(f): 6:29pm On May 19, 2007
sorry i have no pics for you. but my dear all i can say is don't do it too much, ghana braids does chop off your hair line.If you do it too often, i saw one thread about braids styles, on NL check this board well well
Re: I Need Pics Of Ghana Weaving by beegirl: 8:10pm On May 19, 2007
i do a lot of ghana weaves but i would say the first step is the shape of your head and how strong your hair is,then, that would determine the style
if your hair is strong-you could do ghana weaving that starts from the front(if your hair is not strong it would break it)
if your hair is not strong start from the sides(then your hair won't break)

i would try and see if i could get some pics for you.later

Re: I Need Pics Of Ghana Weaving by omogenaija(f): 2:12am On May 29, 2007
maybe but didi means braided

arent u yoruba
Re: I Need Pics Of Ghana Weaving by omoge(f): 2:41am On May 29, 2007
from what i have seen, weaving can be braiding.

the ones we call braiding is usually very common around west africa. we all know that. the didi, common among older women.
if you see a fulani, they mix both together didi (weaving) and braiding.

remember that word "weaving a basket"
Re: I Need Pics Of Ghana Weaving by ThiefOfHearts(f): 2:46am On May 29, 2007
Basket /Ghana weaving is weaving without the lines between the braids showing, they are usually braided very close to the other.

Usually looks nice but really your hair has to be strong

sometime ago, i asked my Ghana friend to do my hair. She ended up doing what we call Didi in nigeria.

The method is dying (maybe cuz it takes more time and method) not many pple know how to do it unlike the braids as in corn rows.

Re: I Need Pics Of Ghana Weaving by omoge(f): 12:57am On May 30, 2007
and am very sure now that it's what yoruba call DIDI. when my ghana friend did it for me, i loose it without snapping pic with it.
those pic here are mainly braiding (front of those styles)

girl, it will be hard to find pic of it cuz it's not really in vogue like the braid as in corn row or pic above.

with that ghana weave or didi, the person making it will stand in your front and do it from front to back.
unlike braid where you stand at the back, ghana weave/didi you stand in the front. (real expert can still stand anyway to do it)

i remember i used to make it too. make a line of hair, then make another line in the center and then with the ilarun, you start. for every woven one, you use the ilarun to cut a strand to weave. someone good at it (like my ghana friend) didn't use ilarun.

Omo, hopefully you will come across it but rare, smile.

hehehehe

why our name now?

why is it called ghana weaving?

somehow funny to hear that over hear
Re: I Need Pics Of Ghana Weaving by salsera(f): 12:29am On Jun 06, 2007
@omoge

ur getting it confused here

ghana weaving is not the same as didi

didi is matting. ie folding the hair as you weave so you have stand or position urself facing the direction the 'cornrow' is going

rarely is didi done with braid extensions, when its is done though it can be very pretty
a caucasion comparison is your typical French braid

Ghana weaving on the other hand is ALWAYS done with 'attachment' but unlike regular cornrow, you keep adding tiny sizes of the artificial hair at regular intervals as you weave. Eventually you will achieve the look of the cornrow getting bigger as it progresses down the line; you will also SEE the intrervals where the 'attachment' was added. However you stand in the opposite direction which the cornrow going

Re: I Need Pics Of Ghana Weaving by BlkDiamond(f): 3:38am On Jun 06, 2007
