nobody is your classmate in life. Only you, is your classmate. When you were born did you even know the people you call classmates? Answer is no, then why feel bad that you're still where you are? Did you know Buhari became president at 70 years? Where are his so called classmates? Some are even dead mods respect yourselves with me. Stop Deleting and modifying my posts

Good day medics in the house...
I'm a 22 years old depressed MBBS aspirant with nothing in my mind but suicidal ideations.
I've been at home for 5 years now struggling for admission....
I wrote an A'level exam (IJMB) this year 2019 at KWASU and had 13points Bio: A, Chm:B, Phy:C
I applied to unilorin (MBBS, Direct Entry) and scored 80% all to no avail
pls I need advice and helpful information on schools that will grant me admission into MEDICINE AND SYRGERY 200lvl with my IJMB result of 13points come 2020...
my O'level is 3Cs and 2Bs.
The schools I have in mind are AAU, UNIMAID, UNIABUJA, ABU...
PLS any medical student with an helpful information or advice should pls give me...
I'm tired of being stagnant. my classmates are graduates already delay is killing!

Oh jeeeezzzzz

What a wasted life.

Bro, don't you know that while waiting you should have a side hustle?

How will depression not be attacking you when you put all your eggs in MBBS basket.

See, start a business, waiting to gain admission these days is a waste of time... Working or making money while hoping to gain admission is wiser.

If you were busy working as a surrogate or help in a hospital, you wouldn't be depressed.... Yes you can even with your ssce

Do 'recharge and get paid' or get a job that pays you cash maybe a home to home tutor... But never be stagnant.

Stagnancy means when you finally gain the admission your mind will still be thinking like 5 years ago meanwhile if you got busy and active in pushing forward in life.... Your mind will be wider and more advanced than the kids you would be entering school with.

Be very prayerful to know if God really wants you to study that course ooooo

I relate with you. Especially when you have responsibilities. When I quit my job to start a biz and the biz didn't work out, my landlord almost killed my with depression.
But I thank God for my family they especially my late mum, may she RIP, they kept me going. And the constant reading of the Bible and working on other ways to come out of the situation. That was when I worked more on my talent.
I later went back to my former work.

I hope you already have a digital or tech skill within that five years that can sponsor you through your stay in school?

Secondly, it's not a must to study Medicine. I don't know about you, But my passion is money and I can make millions without medicine and if I can, definitely anybody can.

You are not getting younger anymore, please start looking at other options, medicine isn't a must.

You have a dream, don't kill it

Look for school in the northern side if you have any relations living there so that when you ate going post utme, you will have accommodation

Alternatively, you can school in any of the West African countries or even abroad if your family can afford it

God will be with you, leave depression alone to walk out of your life, abeg

Geez, 5 years is a pretty long time trying to gain admission. I agree with the poster above me who said you should study out of the country.

If that's not possible, try to start a business. When you make it, you might have MBBS employees on your payroll. Stay strong bro.

If you're financially capable try State University and come and testify

MBBS is the same everywhere
No segregation

We should always learn to appreciate the level we've attained in life owning to active dedication to a course. In as much as we feel we are stagnant, we often are learning something everyday of our unknowingly.

Try more not to concentrate on seeing your life so far as a failure, you'll gain more out of it more.

A lot has been said about what you can be doing but I'll advice that you do something that is in line with your dreams, something small that will always be taking you as step closer to your dream.

I have plans of being a medic and medical school looks far away, I can just pick up a Polytechnic form, Federal college of education form and find a program that will make me more open to joining medic anytime soon.

Above all, God always has plans for us. 5years is a time but very little to him.

We started together doesn't, grew together, failed together, progressed together; does not mean we will arrive together.

Getting Admitted into Medicine... Where am I missing it here?
PS: This is a long post riddled with opinions of the writer alone, you're free to agree to it or not and it's not meant to denigrate any medical school.
Getting admitted into Medicine is a herculean task, to be candid Medicine is not easy to get at all, less than 10% of all medical aspirants get in at first attempt - others have to try twice, thrice... And some it was at the sixth attempt. I'm not here to hype medicine or paint the gory tales of admission seekers, rather channel your minds to few factors that might have been the cause of delay as a medical enthusiast.
One, Do you want to really study medicine or you want to study the university? Don't get me wrong, it is okay to crave for admission into Nigeria's ivy league, it is very okay to want admission in schools like UI, UNN, OAU, ABU, UniBen etc but when you can't get in at 1st and 2nd attempt - switch university don't trade dreams. It took me longer than expected that 'medical education at the undergraduate level is the same', That it's not by the university name but what you acquire overtime there. We are all addressed as 'doctors' in the clinical setting not 'Unilag Doctor', 'Absu Doctor', 'Unimaid Doctor'. Have a proper mindset as medical aspirants. 'Accreditation Status', 'Facilities available', 'Standard Teaching Hospital', 'Available Personnels' are what you should be considering when selecting schools not name of school, category of students going there, location or friends choice. Stop wasting money and time chasing Unilag when you know your grades would have fetched you that same MBBS in LASU.
Two, Admission Process. Medical education is not always that smooth. Most schools compromise when it comes to MBBS - I don't blame them, all medical schools in Nigeria do get more than needed aspirants. The golden rule here is 'Try to beat the process'. Some schools write post utme, others don't, some schools consider O'levels, some don't use Olevel at all - some schools bank only on utme, Some published cut off marks, Some hide their cut off marks from the public, some consider indigene..... You need to know the one you can 'beat their process'. Find out all the information you need, don't just bank on what you see online, make findings from people there, because you read it online from a wacky blog that a school cut off mark is 270 does not mean 270 on dot will 100% get you MBBS there. You need to ask those inside the system. You need to score more.
Three, Be ready to bend. I learnt this phrase too very late. 'Be dogmatic to your goals but flexible with your approach'. Not all medical students gain admission via Utme. Try other means like jupeb, pre degree, remedial.... Even DE and Change of Course at the end of 100lvl for schools that do such. Ade wrote utme for six consecutive times before getting MBBS whilst his friend Bayo wrote once got Microbiology, finished and applied via DE. Ade wasted six years at home with nothing propelling him towards his goal while Bayo bagged a separate degree during that period.
Four, Consider God Factor and be happy for others in the system. Delay is not denial. You not getting it last year doesn't mean you can't get it forever. Oh ye medical aspirants know thine self - know your strongholds, know where you can excel, work on your flaws. Beat competition at where it favours you the most, consider catchment where it favours you the most, head slam merit where you can get it, build your connections too - no one is too small or less important to help, connect with helpers and stay updated, don't bank on online hearsays when choosing schools.
Always remember "The goal is to be a Doctor not to study Medicine".

If u are coming to BUK, your JAMB score must be 320 and above except that u are from the North West region. BUK is very very competitive especially when u are from the South. You can try ABU or UNICAL. However, BUk is the best medical school in Nigeria.

Assuming it was jupeb u did now, I would have advised u to try south west uni (13point is OK for med)... Especially, Oau or lasu.. Even oou sef (since you're from Ogun state)..

If u don't mind try utme next year.. Put in a state uni like OOU or lasu(make sure u score extremely high because they use only utme and olevel results)..

Back then in school, two of my coursemate who did jupeb to enter went back to write utme again(because of their low jupeb point) and they both got their desired courses... So pls be strong..
