I think the way out is hold each station accountable for the vehicles been given to them.
Let's say if the cars get bad in no time, the maintenance fee will be deducted from the salaries of everyone in that station.
dumb Idea.. how about government maintaining the vehicles or you think they use their tongues to maintain it

If you see these vehicles in high speed chase against criminals you will understand why maintaining them is difficult.
No Sir.
The truth is that money is appropriated but not released for the maintenance nor fueling of the vehicles. Each station generate money required to keep the vehicles on the road. The ogas at the top have used the appropriation for "more important things".

Of course the lack of maintenance is coupled with reckless use by the lower ranks...who know that the vehicle will never be sold to them even as scrap.

Just be responsible. Delivery companies and car rental companies do it everyday. Inspect your vehicle everyday and make sure you go for regular maintenance it's that easy.

Those pictures are not maintenance issue. Those guys need reorientation. Brain formatting and hiring of qualified personnel.

Let me tell you one shocking thing

My parts dealer at Zuba told me. And I've heard it somewhere else.

These police guys, when they are broke, the driver and guys on patrol, they take the car to Zuba and swap the good part. Sometimes even the full engine, for bad ones and collect the difference.

That is why all these Police hiluxes never last.

The Nigerian police is cursed
hmm, that's another angle to the story,a good neat Hilux engine will not be less than #500k,and they buy #150k engine and put.after 2 weeks smoke will be following them like steam locomotive

Law enforcement agencies in Nigeria are provided vehicles for their operations directly or indirectly by government at federal and state levels as well as corporate entities and well-to-do individuals to support. But after taking delivery of such vehicles, how they put them to use and maintain is something worrisome and should be checked. Quite number of these vehicles are in their sorry state with no functional hazard lights, air conditioning system and demeaning to road users and disrepute the agencies in question e.g NPF, LASG Taskforce, VIO, FRSC, LASTMA etc.

The inadequate number of such vehicles with necessary communication gadgets must be improved upon by government. However, the few available ones should be prudently put to use. The drivers and users must take ownership for neatness and maintenance of such operational vehicles to avoid damages as often known to many.

Any suggestion on how to restore sanity and maintenance of these operational vehicles by law enforcement agencies?

1) Abolish Nigeria Police

2) Establish a new federal police

3) Establish individual state police

4) Establish individual local government police

5) Establish individual city police. Small cities can contract with local government police for services.

6) Give each patrol officer his own brand new IVM/Foton/Nissan /GAC/JAC pickup, write his name on the fender and his telephone number. The vehicle ID number is already emblazoned on the vehicle for easy identification.

7) It's his assigned vehicle, he can take it to and from work but only for official business. Citizens will know when it's not on official business.

Watch crime eradicated, watch responsibility rise, watch pride of unit rise.

Nigeria is a rich country, the money is here. Our issue is how it's used so please save me the BS about no money. Your COS flew private jet to see POTFRON in UK to sign a piece of legislature.

For this to work we have to sideline the governor. A governor is really a nonentity to cities and their daily life. The mayor, city manager is more important to citizens than the governor or president.

Ibadan will have a city manager that is voted in by the citizens with term limits. His office reports to no one but the citizens. Olubadan is just a ceremonial title. The governor has nothing to do with us but to make sure that our local government gets its share. The local government needs to ensure that the cities gets their share.

The city manager hires the police chief, fire chief, etc.

If the road on yoru street is bad then all the neighbors match to city hall and ask him WTF and what his plan is. Yes it won't be done right away but when will it be done?

Nigerias problem is that we all look at Buhari, IGP, Seyi Makinde. These people don't care about the common man. Not because they don't care but they can't.

So round about back to your question.

You see a police officer driving rough, taking bribes, etc then report to the city.

So, coming from Lagos as you enter Ibadan, Oyo state police will welcome you and escort you via iwo road if taking the express. If you drop through Ayefele then Ibadan city police will welcome you. Each area will have a division. So Challenge division, Molete division , Oke Ado, etc they will all have their areas of patrol and citizens will see them.
