The House of Representatives has called on the Management of Federal University of Technology, FUT Minna to downward review of it’s new fees and charges for both fresh and returning post graduate students.

This following a motion moved today during the plenary session by the Member representing Bida/Gbako/Katcha Federal Constituency and Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Finance, Hon. Saidu Musa Abdul.

Hon. Musa Abdul noted that the Federal University of Technology Minna, Niger State recently came up with new fees and charges for both fresh and returning post graduate students of the institution which is on the high side and would affect students.

The lawmaker observed that the new arrangement which shows almost 100% increment in the fees and charges to be paid by both fresh and returning students has placed Federal University of Technology Minna among the most expensive public tertiary institutions in the Country.
According Hon. Saidu Musa, “the increment is coming at a time serious lamentation of economic hardships exists in the country and as such many parents and self-sponsored students will not able to pay the new fees/charges and consequently, the possibility of mass dropout is visible.
He further stated that school dropouts have always been accompanied by increase in idleness, social stigma, unemployment thereby breeding high rate of crimes and social vices in the society.
