The fire service came and only put out the fire at EDPA government building..surprisingly, they left afterwards and allowed the ekiosa and 2nd market burn to ashes...This country is a joke. For hours unending, the city watched as two of its major neighbouring market goes to ruins...and in a space of a week about 3 markets have been razed down by fire in Benin city...could this just be the handwork of arsonists? It's a shame, in this age and time, fire services are still non functional...There was a country

I saw the fire truck yesterday coming from Delta state but dunno if the Ekiosa youths drove them away..its a shame we'd to wait for fire service from delta to help quench the razing inferno.

People should already know that 98% of 9ja state governments are useless when it comes to disaster management. Imagine if every trader there bought like 7.5kg extinguisher in their shops, they might have been able to use their extinguishers collectively to stop the fire by themselves. Sad loss, may God help them recover.

It is shocking to enter some of there stalls and not a single firefighting equipment, yet almost every year you hear of such fires resulting in losses worth millions - far higher than the cost of the extinguisher.

Arson or not, the fact is when you enter these markets, it gives the errie feeling of disaster waiting to happen. Overcrowded stalls filled with flammable materials - wood, plastic, clothing.

stop this nonsense theory. harmattan is the season of fire outbreaks in Nigeria just like other climes have their own seasons. the problem is that our government do not plan ahead for this. it's similar to the flooding we also experience

how many of these fire service trucks are owned by the state government. I believe what the op comment y'all are quoting is referring to state government owned fire service. Npdc and uniben fire trucks are for their own organizations and they only help out of the kindness of their hearts. Where is the Edo state government fire trucks?
