The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Thursday announced the closure of the Sagamu Interchange Bridge in the south-western part of the country.

A statement signed by the Public Education Officer of the (FRSC) Ogun State Sector Command, Florence Okpe, explained that the decision was a result of the twin tanker explosion that occurred under the bridge on Christmas Day.

Florence, a Route Commander, disclosed that experts from the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing were invited to examine the bridge after the incident.

She noted that it was advised that the bridge be closed temporarily to avoid any preventable tragedy, as it was declared unfit without repair.
“Due to the damages done by the two petroleum tankers that crashed underneath the Sagamu Interchange Bridge in Sagamu, Ogun State, on Wednesday 25 December 2019, the FRSC invited Engineers of the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to assess the continuous usage of the Bridge due to the intensity of the fire outbreak that damaged sections of the Bridge

“Based on their professional advice that the fire has destroyed the integrity of the bridge and may not be safe for motorisation till reinforced, the FRSC Ogun State Command is notifying members of the public to avoid the use of the bridge till it is reinforced,” the statement said.

Two tankers conveying petroleum products were said to have crashed into each other on the outward section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Both vehicles, thereafter, went up in flames due to the impact of the crash but no casualty was recorded.

In his reaction, the Sector Commander in Ogun, Clement Oladele, urged motorists to cooperate with the FRSC and the security agencies that would enforce the temporary closure of the bridge.

He, however, stressed that the enforcement exercise would only last until the bridge was repaired and reopened to motorists for use.

Oladele advised travelers approaching the Sagamu Interchange Bridge from the East via Ijebu-Ode to detour right at the back of the FRSC Emergency Roadside Clinic at Sagamu to connect the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway leading to Ogere.

“They can then make a U-turn before Ogere town and continue their journey to Lagos

“Vehicles coming from Abeokuta leading to the Eastern part of Nigeria via Ijebu Ode should avoid the Sagamu Interchange Bridge and turn right immediately after Nestle Company PLC to proceed to the Expressway leading to Lagos and they can then make a U-turn after Kara-Sagamu after the Julius Berger Yard, Sagamu to reconnect the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode-Ore-Benin Expressway,”

I just got the update on whatsapp.

Looking on the pictures, it seems that trailer driver would be critically injured if not dead.

Let drivers and commuters avoid that bridge/way in other not to cause more wreck to the one which the inferno caused between the tanker and the trailer driver have done.

That is even where the travelling starts, coming down from the bridge, then you start doing 100 to 120 km/hr.

There is also a right turn before the bridge, that would lead to underneath, there you see the high way looking fresh, free and tempting to fire 160km/hr.

May all those who had travelled earlier and those who are about to, without the exception of those who are on their way now. May their journeys be safe, they shall all go and come back safe.

May their vehicles never be present or be opportune to be where an accident is about to happen.

I cover their vehicles with the blood of Jesus, so as it is written, "when I see the blood, I will pass over"

So shall accident, evil, blood suckers, kidnappers, killer heardsmen, gunmen and other evil/ devilish syndicates pass over them when their vehicles pass by.

Happy new year in advance to you all and also the mods; lalasticlala, Seun, Mynd44, and others.

You ..yes..you reading this .. why aren't you making plans to leave this hellhole? Is this the news you want your kids to read everyday? Tanker explosions are no longer strange to Nigerians anymore because it's a daily occurrence.
Is this life you want your kids to become accustomed to?

Why aren't you making good plans to leave this doomed nation? You probably love it here but I demand a concrete reason for why you want your kids to go through the same desensitization to what a good life actually should be like? They don't deserve this and I'm pleading on their behalf

If these tankers must move during the day, can there be at least a body that will be charged with the responsibility of certifying tankers road worthy and their drivers good before moving?

Covering ourselves, roads and vehicles with the blood of Jesus is ok, but the solution to this problem is driving with care while on the highways.

Of course your head may be correct, but you never can tell if the head of the person driving close to you is correct too.

Irresponsible tanker drivers are in the larger majority on Nigerian roads. Our leaders are not hands-on in such matters except to renovate a building for 37billion Naira. It’s about to collapse though......

No vex poo, but I think before you people comment you should understand something's. First, trucks do convey petroleum product in other contries, so u telling me you pass pipes to filling stations or trains will take the fuel to gas stations. Secondly buhari as got nothing to do with truck crashing its been happening for a long time and until the truck owner stop been greedy the should use the right MM plate in making the tanks, just like the trucks of TSL even if they crash they won't leak.
