that's why they always ask is this a sin or is that a sin.

We have to be told what to do in order to avoid breaking taboos, everything is considered taboo unless given permission.

eg someone asking if it's a sin to drink on Jan 1.

You're already drinking, why does the date matter?

Also, anyone not in a group is considered an outcast, or vice versa.

Independent thinking is frowned on.

That what christainity(religion) is all about, you live your life on another mans validations or perceptions -if you like. For example you just grow up knowning that its (not just wrong but) sinful to wear braids or silppers or chains. Painful part is, you're not even allowed to ask 'why'.
Their are some set of Nigerians that think independently; they make research for THEMSELVES; they interrogate 'truth', until they satisfy for THEMSELVES what 'truth' really means; They are called FREE THINKERS.

the funny thing is that the person's validation they are seeking does not even practice what he preaches.

And when you try to open the mind of their disciples, they get offended. I have never seen a more close minded set of individuals.
