My dear lawyers in the family section. This is my dilemma. I got married in 2013 in one of the local government registries in lagos. The marriage was abusive so we separated in 2015. Bride price has been returned. The marriage certificate issued to us was the Local Government Unified Marriage Certificate which has been termed illegal. Do I still need to go to court to finalise the divorce? Or am I already fully divorced as it has been ruled that the Unified Marriage Certificate is illegal?
Your responses are highly welcome. We had no kids in the union.
