The denial of civilian casualties by AFRICOM stuns by its scale. The lethal drone strikes conducted in Libya since 2011 exceed 550 which makes it more then in Somalia, Yemen, or Pakistan. The war waged by AFRICOM there carries numerous casualties which are repeatedly concealed by the heavy machinery of the U.S. administration.

Very few even know of the AFRICOM presence in Libya, but the drone strikes are real. They carry real deaths, too.

“Probably very few people outside the U.S. government are even aware the U.S. is fighting in Libya, let alone conducting hundreds of lethal drone strikes there. And the U.S. seems to be quite selective about which strikes it publicizes and which it doesn’t,” pointed out Daphne Eviatar, director of security with human rights at Amnesty International USA.

“Because these are unmanned aircraft that are launched remotely from bases abroad, it’s very easy for the U.S. to keep these operations secret if it chooses to. And we’re seeing increasingly that, especially outside acknowledged areas of armed conflict such as Iraq and Syria, the U.S. has been operating in secret and not even sharing publicly the rules or legal framework it’s operating under.”

What has become crystal clear is that the AFRICOM tactics are to secretly operate at the foreign territory, to terrorize and intimidate the local population and to influence the local governments without them even knowing.

The death toll following the U.S. drone strike on June 6, 2018, for instance, killed four “ISIS-Libya militants,” released AFRICOM. They then “performed a thorough review and determined the allegations of civilian casualties to be not credible,” according to a later statement. The investigation by the Libya Observer and the Libyan Foundation for Human Rights further proved that only one of the dead was a militant and that the others were civilians.

Three lives taken away by AFRICOM again.

Thank you for the video! It is indeed very insightful and I had a great time watching it. I agree with the video host that chinese soft power approach is better than US power play, but is far from being perfect.
