The Adamawa state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has confirmed the death of Maxwell Nashan, a member of the association.

Nashan, a reporter with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) station, Fombina FM, was said to have been attacked by unknown assailants on Wednesday in Yola, the state capital.

The assailants were said to have picked the journalist from his house in the Bachure area of the city and dumped him near the station with cuts and bruises.

Speaking on the development, Donald Dedan, the state chairman of NUJ, said Nashan later died at hospital.

The NUJ chairman asked the security agencies in the state to find the assailants and bring them to justice.

Dedan lamented the growing cases of insecurity in the state which he said required urgent attention.

Fidelis Jocktan, the state secretary of NUJ, said Nathan was planning to get married before he was killed.

“They did not take anything from his house. They took him away and dropped him near the station tied up and unconscious,” Jocktan said.

“There are signs of beatings and cuts on his body. Some women going to farm saw him and reported to civil defence operatives at the station who rushed him to hospital.”

Suleiman Yahaya, spokesperson of the state police command, said he had not been briefed on the incident.
