Starting from tomorrow, I'll be posting day-to-day progress on a project we are starting in Abuja. The project's objective is, to "convert an existing soakaway to a Bio Digester Toilet System." Stay hooked!

Got into town early this morning. Came in on a night bus. Heading for the site now. I'll send in pictures as soon as I get there.

I'm sorry I couldn't give a situation report yesterday. I was busied trying to get materials ready for today's job. Yesterday, I got some bags of granite, sand (sharp and plaster), pipes cement and rods. This is very necessary for the remodeling of the septic tank to suit what we want to use it for. So, for the most part of yesterday, I sourced these materials in preparation for today's job.

Today, I tried to get to the site very early beating the early morning cold. It's very cold in Abuja right now�. First thing we did to day, was to empty the tank of faecal matter and wastewater. After we did that, I noticed that the depth of the tank was far more than what is required for our chamber. So, we called for debris which was used in filling the tank in order for us to get require level, 3ft depth, 6tf by 2.5.

For this project, we proposed to install double chamber for an effective waste management. This is because of the population of the facility.

Tomorrow, we would partition the tank, work on the inside, install soakhole for the wastewater treatment, run the pipes, and construct slabs for the covering of the chamber. I'll send pictures tomorrow. Need to get some rest right now. Goodnight

Yesterday was pretty a busy one at the site as we tried to cover more grounds with respect to the project. Yesterday's work kicked off by construction of slabs for the covering of the Bio Digester Chamber. After that task was achieved, we moved on to the remodeling of the soakaway. The remodeling is very necessary because this is where we create the room where the solid waste will be digested while the wastewater undergo a bio-filtration process before being released to the top layer of the soil.

The conversion of SOAKAWAY to BIO DIGESTER SYSTEM was completed yesterday. Yesterday, the Soakhole for the system was installed. The Soakhole is where the wastewater is bio-filtered before escaping into the top layer of the soil. After installation, the Soakhole will be covered up.

The final stage of the job involves the application of various Microorganisms, Filters, and other substances that biodegrade the human waste in the chamber. This is the section where the waste is suspended and digested while the wastewater flows into the Soakhole for bio-filtration.

It's important to note however that the system doesn't allow for inorganic wastes such as Diapers, Sanitary Wares, Condoms etc. Tissue Papers can go in.
