Toyota Camry 2007 Model Gear Issue by MUKTY01: 11:38pm On Jan 28, 2020
Good evening everyone , Please is there anyone that can help me with a solution to my Toyota Camry 2007 13pin gear box problem , I recently bought the car from a car dealer and started driving it for some months and the gear was selecting fine until 3days ago , I noticed the gear 4 hits so I quickly rushed to the mechanic to scan the car to check what was wrong so the scanner detected a PRESSURE CONTROL SOLENOID D ELECTRICAL , so the mechanic removed the VALVE BODY from the gearbox and serviced it he also found out that the solenoids switch pin was broken so he changed it so after coupling it the gear oil was topped and we went for a test drive and the gear selection was perfect but after 40mins the gear malfunctioned again , the reverse is working but the drive fails sometimes when it gets hot after sometime when the engine is cool the gear works well and start malfunctioning, please what do you think can be done to fix this problem , the amount for a Belgium gearbox is above my budget for now , please someone should help with a good positive solution , will the gear work if i replace the valve body ? Or is the Fibre in the gear faulty ? Can it be replaced ?

Lubcon is dextron 3 or 2 which is not recommended for your car, you used 8Litres as drain and refill or top up that is way too much Litres for topup.

Drain the whole gear and use Toyota WS then drive like 20km drain again and refill. I am guessing for the whole job, you will need around 10L of oil for it.

If no improvement, you either rebuild or buy a new gear. The 07 Camry gear was known to be very sensitive good luck

@Nuray thank you for your contribution the gear oil was drained replaced with 8ltrs of lubcon atf initially not topped sorry, Today my gear specialist ended up loosing the gear box and found out the clutch fibre is burnt , so he replaced it with another and also changed the valve body , theres a lot difference from the previous selection , this time he used forte oil in place of the ATF saying the oil is thicker , I hope by the time he finish testing the car the gear would be better of, 2007 camry is really sensitive

Here is the future of the gear

The gear has no future, gear expert is a quack, you don't replace human blood with zobo during transfusion. Eventually the forte oil will do what it's meant to do (Take you far away from his workshop and enough drive to put the blame of destruction of the gear on you grin) use Toyota WS or keep repeating the same cycle over and over and over again.

Lol.. most of the mechanics we have in Nigeria are the ones killing the cars.

So many trial and error engineers, who have refuse to upgrade themselves to recent technology.

Op the Oga's here have told you exactly what to do,use the right oil for your car so that it will live long.

Don't waste your money on oil at the moment unless you are ready to replace the transmission

Dont sell the car to anyone without full disclosure or better still, drive the car to african steel rolling mill ikorodu;let them crush the car and used it for 16mm building rods.

please be sensitive to other people's plight. I get the part of "full disclosure" but why tell him to go damage his property completely.

This isn't fair just because you can talk to people on the internet without seeing them, Can you say this trash to his face in reality?

@Mukty, thanks for sharing your experience.

I currently have a similar issue with my camry 2007 model, was your mechanic able to fix the gear for you, did you later relace your gear box completely?
Seeing this in 2023 since 2020, kindly share how you were able to resolve the gear issue.

Thanks.

Expensive than a Honda DW1 abi? For your info DW1 per litre is 8k

Have you priced how much Nissan Matic transmission fluids are sold for?

U660 toyota transmission 400k plus
Toyota WS 5L less than 50k choose your choice.

Now is time to buy before they pull the plug on subsidy

The truth is that the gear is gone. Once a gear loses pressure, technicians will just be milking you. It will run fine when cold, and becomes abnormal when hot. All the best
