5 Players Who Could Leave Manchester City This Summer & Where They Might End Up by marviessss(m): 7:21pm On Feb 18, 2020 |
Well, well, well. None of us saw this coming. And while all hope isn't quite lost for Manchester City following their two-season ban from European competitions - given they have the opportunity to appeal the decision - some of their stars may have one eye on the exit door already. A lot of people may be ranting and raving about Pep Guardiola parachuting his way out of England this summer, with Juventus looking an increasingly cosy proposition, but maybe it's the wealth of talent on the pitch that will be first out to leave. Without further ado, let's tuck in to who may flee the Etihad Stadium this summer. Kevin De Bruyne The Belgian can consider himself hard done by not to find himself with another Premier League trophy in his cabinet this season - with the exception of a miracle, of course. De Bruyne has been in the form of his life, and has a league-high 15 assists this campaign so far - five more than any other player, five shy of Thierry Henry's Premier League record. The 28-year-old has well and truly hit his peak, and may be seeking an elusive Champions League title before his legs don't quite work like they used to before. The good thing for De Bruyne is that every single club in the world - without fail - would chew their own arm off to get a hold of him. Ready yourselves for an almighty scrap for the midfielder's services... Possible Destinations: Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona Sergio Aguero Arguably the greatest striker the Premier League has ever had the pleasure of witnessing, thiscould be Aguero's last season in the English top flight. Just let that sink in. So often the Citizens' saviour, Aguero vowed he would stay at the Etihad until his beloved side won the Champions League. However, the 31-year-old has also stated that he would love to finish his career with boyhood Argentinian club Independiente. It seems a dilemma is on the horizon for the forward. The attacker could be 34 by the time City were next able to compete for Europe's top prize, and who knows what kind of state the club will be in by then. Logic dictates that Aguero may want to leave the Etihad on a high, and you can't blame him given his loyal years of service. Possible Destinations: Independiente, Barcelona Leroy Sané A source had told 90min that Sane and Bayern Munich are keen to sort a summer transfer as soon as possible, and news of the ban should help proceedings. The 24-year-old is entering his defining years as a player, and will likely want to abandon City's sinking ship in a bid to become one of the world's best attackers. Well, at least things haven't gone too badly this season without the injured Germa...oh, no. Possible Destinations: Bayern Munich Ederson Similar to Andy Murray in an era of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, Ederson has mad the misfortune of having to battle with Alisson for Brazil's number one jersey, having to battle with Jan Oblak and Marc-Andre ter Stegen to be the best in the world. In a bid to win the starting berth between Brazil's goalposts and further his reputation, the 26-year-old may seek greener grass this summer. Just like De Bruyne, Ederson wouldn't be short of suitors. Possible Destinations: Real Madrid, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain Raheem Sterling Is a return to Liverpool on the cards? No, absolutely not. They really hate him on Merseyside. However, the Englishman has enjoyed a meteoric rise in recent seasons - which all started at Anfield - with the 25-year-old capable of challenging the world's best players on his day. But while it's difficult to foresee Sterling being content with two whole seasons away from the Champions League, it's equally as difficult to see him playing for anyone else. One thing to remember is that Sterling has previously spoken about his 'dream' of playing abroad, and he may not get a better opportunity to fulfil his ambitions.
