God is a loving God because love is His nature, love is the comprehensive and complete essence of His being, He coldn't be anything other than (more appropriately put) The Loving God.

Imagine a god sending people to kill and loot all in the name of vengeance, imagine a god who lives his faithfull ones to die even when the are calling on him at that moment.
