you have to learn farming like every other trade/profession. Then you have to decide if it's farming for survival (subsistence farming) or large scale export farming Then you decide if it's ojagba, oko and ada farming or mechanised farming like those oyibo zimbabweans wey Mugabe don drive or even the type our ex-generals in the north practice. Then you need land (rented, leased, outright purchase or go to your village and talk with your family heads etc) Then you need to understand the season, the terrain, transportation, storage, opportunities, the politics etc. Then you need the dough to start (Agric loans, your savings etc) Then you need to give it structure (hire workers, adminstators, specialist, accountants, marketers etc) Then YOU NEED TIME, FARMING TAKES TIME. All the above is not in any order though. Most young people have never been to a farm and are born into a generation where there are pavements and concrete cement everywhere until the day when we had gardens behind most houses and we learnt to plant and water plants, vegetables etc at our little garden just to give us a little idea of farming. |

I am investing recently in farming. I planted maize(late season planting) in August, cassava and vegetable. i think it is worthwhile to look for a land, rent for one year and plant, get people to wok for you, and watch it grow. You can harvest vegetable after three weeks and maize after four months. The need i have now is the market for my maize. if any one has market for maize, please call 08037088761 |
