One year free education is the only palliatives for Nigerian Students- Palliative Movement Initiative

The palliative movement initiative has  called on President Muhammedu Buhari, The Minister of Education, and all Commissioners of Education in the 36 state of the Federation for a year free education palliative for the negative effects of covid-19 Pandemic as it affects the education sector in the country.


The lead cordinator of the Movement Emmanuel Sunday Attach a 300 level student, from the department of Economic, Federal University Lokoja, in his speech emphasized on the need for government to take responsibilities of their actions and make provision for the Nigerian students. 


He also said "the lockdown is been eased gradually and we hoped to get back to our daily activities soonest, but what becomes of those  who have lost their jobs and have needs to meet, what becomes the fate of public higher institution students who were unable to pay their school charges before the outbreak of this virus. It is important to note that a good number of those in public higher institution in Nigeria train themselves through school. 

They are also drawn from informal sectors - majorly artisans. Some under parental and guardianship responsibilities witnessed the  unfortunate loss of their parents & guardian jobs. The little money in their saving have now been used for family upkeep and other urgent demand".


The Movement has of over 50 representative from all the higher institutions in the Federation, which covers Universities, polytechnics and all colleges of Educations.


One of the representative from Moshood Abiola polytechnic, Isa Awesu also plea to the federal government to consider the plight of the Nigerian students in their Agitation for one year free education, as many parents and guardians are now jobless and hopeless due to covid-19 Pandemic.


Also a representative from AAUA, known as OlaJames narrated the hardship millions of students faces to pay school fees before the pendemic but now it will be another trauma. 


They however call on both Federal and State government to rise to swiftly meet  the needs in this Social Services. By this, the ideal of education will be our lots. They said If on the contrary, school drop out, poor academic performances and social vices will escalate
