If the deal goes through, it would make Starcomms Nigeria’s largest CDMA company in terms of assets and subscriber base. Multi-Links Telkom has been shopping for a buyer since Telkom’s chief executive Jeffrey Hedberg announced that running the Nigerian subsidiary was no longer a viable proposition. Three Nigerian telecommunications firms; Visafone, Globacom and Etisalat had been linked to the beleaguered firm but they all denied interest. Multi-Links has been hit by dwindling profit margins and falling demand for CDMA services. Very good! The gsm companies have the better & more advanced technology and they ain't resting on their oars either as they keep expanding, releasing new packages and improving on their services. The only way the CDMA telephone companies can compete is to pull resources together so they can get a larger share of the market. |
