Bosses in the house i hail o, i want to buy my next car and considering one of these 2 cars being Toyota Avensis (2003-2008 bought brand new in Nigeria) and Honda accord (2005-2007).

I intend to buy a Nigerian used of either car and would appreciate your expert opinion on it

I have heard tales of both cars

1. Toyota avensis body parts cost an arm and a leg, but am not too worried about that because am a careful driver. But then i have no idea of cost of basic parts of the car, don't want to buy a car that would dig a deep hole in my pocket all in the name of maintenance

2. Honda accord and ball joint problems, and also transmission issues. Except from these 2 is there other things i should worry about?

Which of the 2 cars is better in terms of reliability, cost of maintenance and fuel consumption and why?

Yes they are. But i dont want a car that would require a "specialist"

i will advice you to choose a honda accord, i drive an avensis and it is wack, from the interior to the handling. The car also seems to break down relatively much, i have a friend who drives an accord and he doesn't complain much.

I used to use an EOD, the ball joint never came of for 5 years of using the car, i maintained it regularly, parts are readily available and not expensive, and it looks way sleeker than the avensis.

I used Toyota Avensis for 4years. The car is problematic the engine, wiring, body and interior are very bad
I sold the car when a friend asked me if I'm actually paying my tithe. Lol

Guy, try to do a research from today. In each mechanic workplace, count d num of Toyota & Honda u will see there. Obviously Toyota will take d lead. Go for honda and make sure u use recommended oil I. E
DW-1 for transmission fluid & any brand of oil that is SAE 5W 20, u will thank me later. Ur car will last forever

Accord is higher in level than the Avensis. The Accord also has a better build quality and interior finish compared to the Avensis.

Avensis dash board cracks and melts, the interior starts peeling off, interior headliner is poorly done.

Though engine and transmission is ok.

For the Accord if you can take good care of the transmission and buy the OEM fluid for the gear and steering you won't have problem. Then engine seat is the major replacement work you will do often and best bet is to buy Tokunbo not new.

Next is door actuators, then you will likely battle the lock mechanism and ignition mechanism those won't cost you much but can happen at unexpected time especially the door lock if you use key to open often instead of remote.

I used one for 10years a 2006 so I can give it a good score overall. what's more i never experienced ball joint issues though out usage

I am using Avensis 2009 model. For 6 years now no issues. Always using OEM parts. The body is still in pristine condition.

The parts are really expensive, especially the OEM.
