The White House Press Briefing room is reportedly under lock down as protesters from Pennsylvania Avenue and Lafayette Park begin to the gather in front of the government house.

This is coming as nationwide protests hits the United States over the extrajudicial killing of Black American, George Floyd.

According to the CNN "There were members of the press corps around the press entrance but they were just cleared out and have been brought back to the White House press briefing room"

The Cincinnati.com also reported that the US Secret Service locked the the entrance to the White House Briefing Room as a result of perceived security threats, such as packages or bags left nearby. But the building is rarely locked down for protests. And while protests are a daily occurrence outside the White House, they are often small – drawing a few dozen people, at most.

The US President, Donald Trump has said he has contacted Floyd family shortly after his tweet describing protesters as "thugs" was criticized and labelled as "glorifying violence" a violation of Twitter's policy.
