Calling someone Alhaja or Alhaji can be derogatory to some people , reason bin that not everyone has been to Mecca, Saudi Arabia for pilgrim.

Another thing is ‘Alhaja/Alhaji is like a title for Muslims that went for Haji.

Alhaji or Alhaji can be cheated on and should not feel bad about it because they are Muslims and can withstand being cheated on.

Alhaji or Alhaja simply means a visitor to the house of Allah (Muslim on pilgrimage)

Some people however find it derogatory because they could only be called Alhaji or Alhaji while on hajj, not when they are back in their own country (just like you being called a visitor in your own home).
