Explainer: what is Daca and who are the Dreamers?

What is Daca?
Daca (pronounced dah-kuh) is a federal government program created in 2012 under Barack Obama. It allowed people brought to the US unlawfully as children the temporary right legally to live, study and work in America, instead of living in the legal shadows, fearing deportation. Those applying were vetted, and then action to deport them would be deferred for two years, with a chance to renew on a rolling basis. And they would become eligible for basics like a driving license, college enrollment or a work permit. The program is not designed as a path to permanent residency or citizenship.

Who are the Dreamers?
Those protected under Daca are known as “Dreamers” – by the time Trump announced his decision to rescind the program, many hundreds of thousands had been granted approval. To apply, they must have been younger than 31 on 15 June 2012, when the program began, have arrived before the age of 16 and been “undocumented”, ie lacking legal immigration status. Most Dreamers are from Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.

What happens now?
The case before the supreme court hinged on whether the Trump administration followed proper procedure – not whether it could legally end Daca. The court agreed Trump has the power to end the program.

That leaves open the possibility that Trump could have another go at scrapping it, though it would be difficult to do before the November election – and largely unpopular with voters. So Daca survives, albeit still in limbo for now. Will it start back up again, allowing new applications?

If the program had been killed off, Dreamers faced the immediate threat of deportation to the countries where they were born but many have no familiarity with.

Joe Biden has pledged to make Daca permanent via legislation if he becomes president.

A survey of Black immigrant domestic workers in New York, Miami-Dade and Massachusetts found that 70% had lost their jobs amid the coronavirus pandemic.

A survey conducted by The Institute for Policy Studies and the National Domestic Workers Alliance includes responses from 800 workers.

Half of those surveyed said they were afraid of seeking assistance from the federal or local government due to their immigration status. Just as the pandemic hit the US, the Trump administration’s public charge rule, which allows the government to deny green cards and visas to immigrants who rely on public benefits, took effect.

A senior state department official has resigned over Donald Trump’s handling of racial tensions.

Mary Elizabeth Taylor, the assistant secretary of state for legislative affairs, submitted a resignation letter in which she said the president’s actions “cut sharply against my core values and convictions”, Washington Post reports.

Taylor, 30, is one of the highest-ranking African American leaders in the administration and had served since Trump first took office.

“Moments of upheaval can change you, shift the trajectory of your life, and mold your character. The President’s comments and actions surrounding racial injustice and Black Americans cut sharply against my core values and convictions,” she wrote in her resignation letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, which was obtained by the Post. “I must follow the dictates of my conscience and resign.”

What's Biden's immigration plan?

Following the supreme court’s decision on Daca, Joe Biden promised to create a roadmap to citizenship for Dreamers and 11 million undocumented people in the US “on day one” that he takes office.

The Democratic presidential candidate’s immigration platform seeks to distance Biden from policies enacted during Barack Obama’s first term, when deportations were sped up. But Biden’s plan is otherwise fairly moderate – offering a continuation of Obama-era policies that stop short of making the sorts of radical reform that immigration activists have demanded.

Biden doesn’t seek to decriminalize unauthorized entry into the US, or abolish Ice. Instead, the former vice-president also plans to refocus immigration authorities on ‘toward threats to public safety and national security” and otherwise relaxing enforcement.

His platform promises to reverse various Trump policies, including family separation and travel bans.

You are a confused self hating African.

If only you knew that Trump's paternal grandfather and grandmother were immigrants from Germany.

His Mother was an immigrant from Scotland.

His current wife, Melania is an immigrant from Slovenia who was working illegally with her visit visa before applying for a work visa she was barely entitled to since she was merely a nude model but obtained since she was then dating an influential and rich Trump.

His same wife used the opportunity of her marriage to Trump an American, to bring her parents over from Slovenia to have permanent residency in USA.

She is not more righteous or holy than the Mexicans and Africans who also visit America and abuse the immigration laws of that country, so they can have the life that Melania Trump exploited the system to achieve for herself and her parents.

Face your heavenly race and stop hating on your own self. The angels in heaven are not White Americans, so no need for an overkill of ass-licking.

DACA was Obama's exploitation of Presidential Executive Order to get illegal aliens to vote him back into office knowing fully well that the over 12 million illegal aliens will definitely vote for him over the temporary reprive to stay in America without getting deported.

Executive Orders are NOT laws but policies that can and used to be able to be reviewed or cancelled by the executive.

The Supreme Court decision has created room for American Presidents to act outside the US constitution and laws as it set the precedents that any EO can not be overturned without redress to Congress and or the courts which basically gives the President the powers to issue decrees and thus dictatorial power.

With this highly partisan ruling, SCOTUS has unknowingly given extraordinary powers to POTUS to enact decrees.
What this means in future (as Trump tweeted) was that POTUS can roll out laws and decrees without recourse to Congress and scrutiny by the courts.

What you should expect is Trump passing decrees that ban mail-in voting and ID mandated voting - two of the major contentions between the Republicans and Democrats in the upcoming elections.

Voting fraud has been perpetuated by the Democrats using both mail-in votes and multiple voting and vote by illegal aliens.

This is a win for Trump as he rightly tweeted but a big loss for American democracy as POTUS now has the dictatorial powers to roll out decrees.

The Democrats are now coming to realization that such a partisan decision by SCOTUS is not in anyway favorable to their intended rigging plans as Trump can issue same executive orders (which Obama used in 2012) to his advantage and ban mail-in votes and voting without identification or illegal immigrant voting - which are what the Democrats have been using to rig elections since Obma.

And it didn't cross your small brain that as POTUS Trump can also issue executive orders such as the ban on Nigerian immigration and visas indefinitely ?

You people don't have one common sense.

This Supreme Court ruling effectively states that the executive can not rescind any executive orders thereby giving POTUS powers to make laws arbitrarily.

Trump's tweet warned about the decision as being dangerous as it will confer on POTUS to enact laws in future.

Get ready to see Trump use same executive powers to further ban you from entering US for life which will make it impossible for both him or any subsequent administration, Congress or the same SCOTUS from rescinding it.

Trump's executive order banning VISAs to Nigeria is now decree that can not be reversed by either his administration or subsequent one, Congress or even same SCOTUS.

This is what the DACA ruling has led to.

Executive Orders are not Laws but Policies. Policy is not Law just as lock down and curfews can be interpreted and challenged as breach of fundamental rights to freedom of movement.

The Democrat appointed Judges and the lone Bush appointed Judge have unknowing granted Trump dictatorial powers which he will use to ban mail-in voting and voting by illegal aliens.

The tiny minority of Democrats with small brain are not celebrating DACA as they know it gives Trump extra-constitutional powers to roll out decrees that do not require Congressional approval nor the same SCOTUS vetting.

Niggerians with no single sense will not pause and analyze things for themselves but will rather troop to CNN and get their autistic briefing.

This ruling is a big WIN for Trump but a sad one for democracy.

Liberal and bitter critics of Trump are not happy with the ruling but you ignoramus niggaz some how think this hurts Trump when it doesn't but only empowers him more.

This is 5-D chess and not your Ludo politics that you are used to.

What do you expect from APC Zombies?

They think this hurts Trump while it only empowers him.

The only reason Trump isn't happy about the ruling is that it is not binding by law but by fiat .

Trump knows he won't be President forever and as a true democrat and upholder of the law and democratic tenets he sees this as a danger to American society just as Obama abused EO and rolled out DACA for selfish political reasons to get illegal immigrants to vote for him in 2012.

Trump can do same with an EO of his own banning mail-in votes and also issue mandatory voter IDs for intending voters to weed out the illegal alien base of the Democrats but the man wants a court ruling or congressional approval to make it law and not like Obama who issued fiat decrees in the form of EOs to his own political and corrupt advantage.

Obama was the worst thing to happen to American democracy.

You have to be a pretty useless conservative president for a supreme court with
majority conservative judges to reject your anti-immigration proposal.

Trump, the coward had to use the backdoor.
He couldn't use the normal legislative means to promote his policy
because he can't even convince his fellow Republicans to back him.

STOP THE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. THEY BRING CRIMES AS THEY COME, THEY MANIPULATE THE SYSTEM AND LIE TO GET CITIZENSHIP, SOME OF THEM EVEN LEAVE THEIR LITTLE KIDS IN THE US JUST TO MAKE THEM GET CITIZENSHIP BY ALL MEANS.

Trump is just evil. Alot of dreamers are highly skilled professionals (Techs, Doctors, Pharms, Nurses, IT gurus etc) that were brought into the US as babies, and most have never been to their home countries before, yet he wants to send them packing.

If they were blue eyed white migrants from Norway, Britain, Canada, Germany, Trump won't cancel the program.

Fortunately for DACA recipients, it could take another 4 to 5 years before it gets to supreme Court again. grin
