I don't think the picture has just one meaning, i think it's more of a psychological picture with everyone having his own Interpretation of it.......personally i think the pictue is telling us that "The search for knowledge is tough and Perilous".

common sense is different from knowledge gained through reading.

It shows how fast she is quick in learning things around her even with the struggle ..she is still willing to but when the pressures gets too much, you still don't have to give up no matter how long you've been on it which shows the books as time .....and the things getting tougher which shows the water reaching above her .....and the heels, its like her pride ....without that heels, she can't get to that very spot where d water as gotten to which is almost covering her up so the heels serves as something that is still holding her heads up. Its shows, in this life, there is time for everything....time to survive even when its getting tougher ....don't give up and make sure you're never below the limit of your greatness ... . and again, the books are wet already , which makes it a little bit heavier for her to stretch up for air ....if she reduces the pressure by putting those books back ...she still have chances of floating a little bit up to gasp for air. ..another lesson is that, sometimes, its not all opportunities that comes easy but if you can free your mind and soul like freeing those books...and evaluating few which sometimes are death traps for you. ...its not all opportunities you see can really work for you

In my own opinion, I feel the picture signifies that, "you only acquire knowledge if you look for it the same way a drowned man is looking for air." - An ancient Philosopher.

Maybe it means that the right Information and Knowledge is Great Power, it is Light and can be life-saving. OR that Trying to Better/enlighten oneself and improving your situation despite tough conditions or circumstances. Maybe Getting education

I have two possible interpretations:

1) It signifies that for every level of knowledge acquired, there is a challenge ( or responsibility) to match .

2) If the woman's height represents one's lifetime, the water level the number of years spent already, and the books knowledge, then it shows one's lifetime is not sufficient to acquire all the knowledge available in one's field of endeavour .
Her stretching her legs denotes that some may attempt to acquire more knowledge beyond what is expected, yet they'll still be overtaken by time ( death ).

When they say something has a big meaning, that's a great fallacy.
Everyone can't have same perception, the original owner of the picture did so in his own perspective and shouldn't expect everyone to reason precisely in his own line of views. If he wanted to tell us what he was thinking, he should simply put a footnote of what inspired him and not assuming all other perceptions may be wrong

Different people, different perception, hence it is fallacious to assume it has just one meaning.

So whatever interpretation u give to it, u are right if u can explain it to make sense out of it.


To me, the picture is a complete trash and nonsense, someone's life is in danger and she is still well dressed and standing, looking for books to read. Even a goat at this stage will begin to fight for its survival
