DSS aren't that dumb not to be able to link the timestamp of a message to SIM ownership.

If someone sent a message to Ooni's private phone number, they must have gotten it from
an inside collaborator.

Sending threatening messages is a serious crime and Sahara reporters deliberately
left out the message to make the suspect look innocent.

Having read the post, Sahara reporters failed to reveal the content of the message sent to the Ooni. As a result, my comment on this article is inconclusive.

They reported what they have, it is near impossible for them to know the content as the individual they arrested have no clue and their attempt to reach the Ooni’s spokesman did not yield any fruit.

I believe they want to make this public so as to mount pressure for the guy to be released....the story is still developing, hopefully the Ooni side will response and clear the air.

and arrested the culprit.

By the standard of this article, any body who reported a criminal case where
a suspect was eventually arrested must have ordered the arrest.

They are relying on the victim's story. And since they alleged that he sent the message and the Sim wasn't found with him, they can't give details of the said message.

A SIM is not like any other item.
Its details permanently exists in the virtual world of the service provide.
The suspect probably think destroying the sim would help him not

The detained man has his story
The king, Ooni, has his own story.
The DSS acted on the story told them by Ooni.

The story narrated by the activits, Olawale Bakare “Mandate” And Sahara Reporters is half truth before venturing to conclude like this

What was the content of the message sent to Ooni?
Sahara Reporters et al don’t know.
Was the detained guy saying the whole truth and nothing but the truth?
They don’t know.

What if the DSS have detained the guy for stealing a phone belonging to the king’s associate and sending messages to the king?
They don’t know.

Some times the DSS also go on to act on their own after lodging a report to them, which could have also happened in this case. The Ooni might even have forgotten reporting a case like this.
The DSS should not have detained and held the man incommunicado, he should have been allowed to speak to his lawyer

That is the law, yes I know in practice that is not the case.

Nonetheless the detained guy have a case against DSS for abusing his rights. Even a charge and bail law can have him released by taking DSS to court and as in most cases, that will be the end of the case and he can then turn around and sue DSS and Ooni for violating his rights.
