My brother, it's a dog eat dog word. I can tell you for a fact what transpired. The whole thing is a game of power play which Prof Ogundipe fell for as a result of his ego. It's so unfortunate.

hush15:

Honestly, whether selfish or not, the council cannot just sack because the chairman of the governing council and the vc have misunderstandings. Where is the professionalism in that?

That's why there is corruption in everything in Nigeria. That conflict of interest always above organisational interest.

You are very correct. ASUU has always been selfish with their actions. When the dust is settled, these same people will leave him and dance with the new Acting VC. Ogundipe is just a puppet

Nothing selfish here. Follow due process and if found guilty punish according to the provisions of exant laws. Simple!

ASUU will never allow this removal to go unchallenged.

My brother, forgive my use of word of "puppet", but do you know what they call "oju aye" in yoruba, that's what is happening there. Believe me, I know what I am saying.
damosky12:

Ogundipe is not a puppet. The crowd you see around him are members of the UNILAG community who came out to support him and to protest against his "sack."

He is not leading any protest oh! Don't mind the headline.

He is arguably the best UNILAG VC in a long time. He is loved by many.

The only issue is that there is a seeming power tussle between him and Babalakin.

Someone is obviously trying to use the media against the VC- Ogundipe. If you are discerning you will realize that the video shows him being welcomed into the campus, obviously by people that love him, but the writer or poster in Nairaland here tagged his post as- Ogundipe joins ASUU to protest... This is people trying to change the narrative. There is also nothing to show that it is an ASUU gathering or crowd.

Here is the ABC of Salvation:

A-Acknowledge the fact that you are a sinner and that you can not save yourself. Psalms 51: 5
B- Believe that it is only Jesus that can save you. Romans 10:10, Acts 4: 12
C- Confess your sins, repent from them and be converted (Never go back to them). Romans 10: 9. Call upon Jesus to forgive you and be saved today (Romans 10:13).

Follow these steps now please! Tomorrow may be too late! Death may come, Rapture may take place before you act! Don't delay!!!

Unlikely. Babalakin is an open enemy of ASUU. He is part of the reasons the union is currently on strike.
Too bad for him.
He must have stepped on alot of toes.

On the contrary. He seems to have the backing of some people in power.

He singlehandedly stalled renegotiation between FGN and ASUU for years and yet not replaced as head of FGN team by minister of education.

He is championing commercialization of university education in Nigeria wherein a certain education bank will be established from which students can borrow money and pay tuition.

I learnt the man is a Doctor, I wonder how come he's more 'powerful & connected' than the Vice-Chancellor who is Professor.

why do I have this feeling that Tinubu is behind this man's debacle, anyway , the man should simply go and bow to Yoruba demigod (Tinubu) and watch his misfortune overturned overnight

This is really crazy... Why in the first place was he removed without the University Senate being consulted?

It's just as if the Nigeria's President is removed by the Federal Executive Council (FEC), and the National Assembly (Senate and House of Representatives) don't know... As in, how on earth should that even be done?

Who told you they don't fancy the Pro Chancellor? Someone that gave each junior staff member 5k last December? Someone that organised a meeting with the Non Academic staff for the first time in the history of the school to hear their grievances and is already making changes and as a result, ASUU is not happy about that? Someone that gave his hectares of land to the members of staff? My brother Prof is like a father to me, he is a senior pastor in my mission but he followed wrong advice that's it.

Connection has nothing to do with academic qualifications. It is all about your access to people in power.

ASUU might be divided concerning this case. Some will support the Vice Chancellor while others will support the Pro-Chancellor & the new Vice Chancellor.
New day, new drama in Nigeria.
A figment of your imagination. ASUU remain solid and Babalakin remians persona non grata

Even if he gave his life for the University of Lagos, due process must be followed for the VC's removal. He sins must be clearly stated and be allowed to defend himself. l don't buy your rant at all.

I am not ranting. What I am saying is, it is just a game of power play. The game is the game. How many times have due process ever been followed in the scheme of things in Nigeria? VC knew from the onset that the ProChancellor was plotting for his removal, yet he played into his hands

What was he(VC) suppose to do? Mind you the institution is not his Private business that he can hire and fire at will. Nobody cares if the VC was fired! But he should allow due process to do so. The institution is a Public institution.

Baba, everyone knows this, but the game is the game. There are a lot Prof could have done. For instance, did you see a write up he wrote to Council members, vilifying the ProChancellor? Prof shouldn't have done that at all.
