But that exactly whats happening right now. Just speak a word against this government and risk being invited and detained by DSS

Yes, but you won't be held incommunicado, like it was under Amry rule.

Mr Mailafiya was questioned by DSS. Yes, it should not have happened....but if it was Army rule, he would have been in jail permanently, and a decree would have been passed by fiat to keep him there(And it happened). Instead, he was called to DSS office with his lawyers present and left after a few hours.

It is bad now, but under Amry rule it was much worse.

Let's watch and see if any other African country will stage another coup then it will be known as Africa's Arab spring.

After all since the coup in Mali started the Belarusian president has compared the revolution in his country as a coup by opposition leaders.

Let's see if any other country will follow the way of Mali as most African government are fantastically corrupt.

Nigeria and Ghana could be next to stage a coup.Dont be deceived the foreign powers are not responsible for the coup.

Monitoring the situation here live at Bamako I can authoritatively tell you the military frantically searching for a political solution. France and Ecowas and other countries have all agreed to deal with the coup plotters by placing sanctions on them.

The only option is for the coup plotters to bring in a semblance of civilian government and fresh elections must be conducted within a few months time for peace to reign.
Seriously, as in you stay in Mali? If I may ask what do you do there? Economic prospects etc. Just curious as impression I have is that it is a rundown backwards country.
Stay safe though.

"There has been anger among troops about pay and over a continuing conflict with jihadists - as well as widespread discontent with the former president.

Mr Keïta won a second term in elections in 2018, but there has been anger over corruption, the mismanagement of the economy and the rise of communal violence in areas of the country"

Sounds a whole lot like Nigeria. Pray that soldiers here don't do same. Cos that's all Nigerians do, pray.

This country is faced with the same security and corruption issue like Nigeria
Now I understand why Buhari has kept these service chiefs irrespective of the calls for their sack
Fear of coup is the beginning of wisdom

The security Chiefs cannot stop a coup.

Most of the times it's the middle ranked officers that stage coups and the chiefs are always victims in a coup

I think you want to go back to the day of rule by decree, jailing without trials, and your rights curbed for no good reason.

Some of you guys have forgotten how harsh army rule was.

Plus the Army is made up of, you guessed it, the same old corrupt Nigerians. Nothing will change....

. Is this different from what is happening now in Nigeria?

The real people don't care much.

The widescale corruption and gross leadership incompetence bedevilling the African continent vide our so-called democratic/civilian leaders makes the continent hopeless.

Imagine no one African country in this century has been able to be developed - we are all still third worlds!

Look at the debts, the corruption, the unemployment and insecurity ravaging our country because of leadership incompetence, do you think the ordinary Nigerian cares what type of government is able to help bring the country back to safety and the path of hope and glory.

Democracy -especially in Africa- is a scam.

The worst civilian government is far better than the best military government. That's why they need a political solution where elections will hold soonest.
The military know that they won't get support from other nations so what they do 8s remove a corrupt and legitimate government the people are tired of and immediately return it back to democratic rule.
