All google search leads to a nigerian newspaper, nothing to do with Obama, not specifically to do with America apart from the fact that it is being hosted there

Is it being organised by the Nigerian government?

I know Siasia likes to kick up a storm whenever he is denies funding for 'international training' hope he is not paying someone a favour

Chei, this our country sef, strange things dey happen here than any where else in d world. How can an FA claiming to be serious about reviving football throw 22 players and officials into an airplane to the USA when obviously from the start no tournament was scheduled to take place, they don go shopping with free air fares from taxpayers money, next we'll go to England to play against Chelsea while Mikel will line up for Chelsea, chei

LOL, strange indeed! funny thing is there were suspicions about the cup long before the team departed and yet they still flew out to Dallas.

Green Bowl soccer Tourney: Home-Eagles arrive in Texas

Scores of Nigerians resident in Dallas, capital of the State of Texas were at the Double Tree Hotel on Thursday morning to receive players and officials of the Nigeria national football team, Super Eagles as the delegation landed in the United States of America.

The team of 20 players and nine officials was led by a member of the Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Barrister Olaleye Adepoju, and will play two matches in the invitational United States’ President’s Holiday Celebration Soccer Tournament, otherwise known as the Green Bowl Soccer Tournament, holding at the Cotton Bowl Soccer Stadium this weekend.

The Delta Airline flight from Lagos had a few hours’ stop-over in Atlanta, Georgia before connecting the Texas State capital.

The Super Eagles, with Head Coach Samson Siasia directing affairs, will take to the pitch against their Mexican counterparts at the Cotton Bowl on Saturday at 7pm (1am, Sunday in Nigeria) and the result will determine whether they play the Losers’ Final or Final Match on Sunday at the same venue.

Costa Rica and Panama would play the first game of the two double-headers on Saturday at 4.30pm (10.30pm, Saturday in Nigeria). The Losers’ Final holds from 4.30pm Sunday (10.30pm, Sunday in Nigeria) with the Final starting at 7pm Sunday (1am, Monday in Nigeria).

Coach Samson Siasia has expressed delight at the eventual staging of the tournament, which had to be whittled down from eight-nation to four-nation, saying it would help his team’s re-building and re-tooling ahead of the 2012 African Nations Cup qualifier against Ethiopia on March  27.

The Fiasco!
Furious NFF to report agent after fiasco

Furious and embarrassed Nigeria football officials say they will report match agent Pius Oleh to Fifa after the Green Bowl Soccer tournament ended up in shambles.

The Nigeria team arrived in the USA on Thursday, only to learn that they were the only side to do so as organizers had ‘postponed’ the tourney.

It left the NFF looking at wasted expenses for transcontinental air tickets and hotel accommodation.

NFF President Aminu Maigari instructed the NFF Secretariat to make a detailed report of the fiasco to world football-governing body Fifa.

“This is untenable. How can he tell us that there was a ticketing problem after our team had travelled that long distance to play? How can he tell us that he did not know there was a problem until our national team arrived in America?

“This is totally irresponsible on his part. How come he did not ensure that everything was perfected before telling our team to start coming? We are not going to take this lightly.

“We will get all the documents that have to do with the tournament, all the agreements we had with him along the way and send these to Fifa," said Maigari.

The Nigeria delegation, made up of 20 players and nine officials, and led by Member of the NFF Executive Committee, Barrister Olaleye Adepoju, flew 11 hours from Lagos to Atlanta overnight on Wednesday, February 23 and then connected Dallas, Texas believing it would take part in a four-nation US President’s Holiday Celebration Soccer Tournament packaged by America-based Nigerian Pius Oleh, who already had the go-ahead of the United States Football Federation for the event.

In his own defence of what happened, Oleh said on the telephone that he had everything tidied up until the problem with the Ticket Master cropped up on Thursday evening.

“I am embarrassed myself at what has happened, but the truth is that we had everything keyed and the teams had been informed to start coming before the Ticket Master developed a problem. It was not something that anyone could do anything about at such short notice. It was not something we could have envisaged, having done all that was required to get things right.

“We had the approval of the United States Soccer Federation and letters of commitment from the countries involved. We had invested a lot of resources and energy into making this happen and honestly, I am devastated. But I am more worried about the fact that the Nigeria team had arrived for the tournament.

“The tournament was never a joke; it was something we worked very hard to realize. I know people will feel very bad about the Super Eagles having travelled that long distance but the truth is we discovered ONLY AFTER they had arrived in the US. The other teams involved (Mexico, Panama and Costa Rica) were only a couple of hours away from the US and were to fly into town on the Thursday that we discovered, so they cancelled their flight. But Nigeria is far away and the team had to leave earlier.

“I am saddened by this, but there was never anything one could have done about it. We can’t allow the tournament to go ahead without tickets. We had not collected any money from anyone for any aspect of the tournament, so you cannot call this a scam.

“Games get cancelled here and again, but I know the Nigeria federation will feel very strongly about this because they were earlier to play Guatemala here and that also didn’t work out. It is a pretty bad situation but we should leave this behind us and move ahead. Surely, the tournament will take place in two weeks”, said Oleh.

NFF President Aminu Maigari, who cancelled his scheduled trip on Friday alongside that of chairman of technical committee Barrister Christopher Green, said the Nigeria team will definitely not be available for the new date.

“Pius Oleh will first have to account to Fifa on this embarrassment. We have no business with him concerning any new date. He should be ready to offset all our expenses and also pay compensation. Let him play his tournament with any teams he wants.

“All the same, we apologize to Nigerians and the Government for this unfortunate incident,” stated Maigari.

Maigari on Saturday instructed team officials to harness efforts at getting seats on the Delta Airline flight from Atlanta to Lagos on Sunday for the team to return home. The Super Eagles had trained on Friday and Saturday at a facility close to their Marriott Courtyard hotel.

but do people still use their brains?
Re: What Is The Green Bowl Soccer Tournament? by 12large1: 1:47am On Mar 03, 2011
they better not because from day 1 it was obvious that the tornament was flawed. and worse of all the agent is nigerian by birth. so if we sue him in the future when another nigerian wants us to legitimately play in usa their federation would not accept
Re: What Is The Green Bowl Soccer Tournament? by fexlist(m): 1:38am On Mar 04, 2011
Nigeria have started again. What does NFA wanted to do? report or sue? which ever one they should just forget about it because the man is nigeria born as 12large said above. the players and the officials should just be compensated that is what they should do.
Re: What Is The Green Bowl Soccer Tournament? by DisGuy: 8:15pm On Mar 04, 2011
What they should do is fire themselves not compensate anybody lets be honest, Siasia is a sucker for foreign trips I've always said that before he was employed, if they have refused he along with his cronies in the media would have starting throwing their rattle about denying local players 'international exposure' like there's any exposure to be had in far away America
