- Minna, the Niger state capital is currently witnessing heavy protests
- Youths in the area have poured out on the streets in their large numbers to protest over the epileptic power supply in their domain
- The youths have also blocked a major highway in the state capital causing massive traffic jam, Some youths in Minna, Niger state on Monday, morning August 31 blocked one of the major roads in the state capital to protest incessant power supply in the area.
The outraged youths also sent away the Secretary to the Niger State Government (SSG), Alhaji Ahmed Matane, who had accosted and appealed to them to open up the roads and stop the protest.
They demanded Governor Abubakar Sani Bello should show up to address them over their grievances.
The youths are demanding to see Governor Sani Bello. Photo credit, The youths declared they were tired of the epileptic power supply, saying the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) was taking residents for granted.
The Nation reports that efforts of the state government to bring the protest to an end failed as the SSG hurriedly left amid boos and chants.
The youths vowed to close the road for 24 hours until the governor shows up.
Recall that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission recently declared that it is committed to ensuring that“poor and vulnerable”Nigerians do not experience any undue increase in electricity tariff.
The commission's chairman, James Momoh, made this known in a statement released on Wednesday, August 26.
Momoh said electricity distribution companies can only increase prices only after customers have been consulted and metered. https://www.legit.ng/1361385-protest-rocks-niger-state-poor-electricity-supply.html?_e_pi_=7%2CPAGE_ID10%2C3458011224
