Education Trust Fund (ETF) Executive Secretary, Prof. Suleiman Elias Bogoro has described University of Ibadan (UI) as the most prudent institution in Nigeria which is judiciously using the money being sent to it by ETF well.
His words, "of all the institutions in the country which are benefitting from the ETF's interventions, University of Ibadan is the most prudent in terms of money management. I think it is only the University of Lagos that can rival UI in terms of strict adherence to financial discipline. UI has provided leadership. UI is indeed living up to its premier status"
Prof. Bogoro made this declaration during his inspection of completed and on-going Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) projects in UI, commending the Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka led Management for its transparency and the quality of the job .
The ETF boss who was accompanied by some top officials of ETF, remarked that "UI has justified the money we are sending to the institution" , adding "I will like to commend the VC and his team for utilizing the money well"
On the ranking of UI as one of the best 500 universities in the world and the best in West Africa, Prof. Bogoro recalled that in 2014, there was no single Nigerian university ranked among the best 1,000 universities in the world, but today, the ETF Executive Secretary stated that UI has done Nigeria proud by coming up to claim its rightful position.
According to Prof. Bogoro, " This same UI is the only university in the country which has a Deputy Vice Chancellor on Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships (RIPS). Research is very important if the country must develop, we have to pay more attention to research and I am so happy to know that UI has also provided leadership in this direction. UI is indeed a model in Nigeria "
Earlier in his office, the UI Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka who praised the ETF boss for his dynamic and disciplined leadership saw Prof. Bogoro as a friend of the UI "who gives support to the institution as well as its students".
While thanking Prof. Bogoro for his past support, Prof. Olayinka, in company of his Management team pleaded with the ETF for more support, saying staff and students need more space to operate.
Fifteen projects including construction of National Institute of Maternal and Child Health College, rehabilitation of Chemistry Department, Construction of Communication Laboratory Complex for Department of Electrical Electronic Engineering, construction of Centre for Entrepreneurial Development and Construction and completion of Agricultural Extension Department Building were inspected.
They also included construction of Building for Statistics Department, construction of multipurpose Centre, Faculty of Scientific, construction of Faculty of Education Complex, construction of Biogas Treatment Plant for Youth Friendly Centre and Construction of Student Ecological Friendly Centre among others.
