To me, Nigerian hotel owners dont know hotel business at all. You get to find 5-7k hotels, their rooms especially bathrooms irritating.

Never cosy.
Most times with faded bedspread, threadbare towels ,screeching beds and poor lighting.

You'll check several out before staying in any na. Aside one hotel.like that in Owerri, all the others I've stayed in are really nice and still within that price range.

Just ensure to check several first

Airbnb.

Since that's so lucrative, you can practically rent a mansion for nothing.

unfortunately it would seem that in the budget range most people think if you aren't sleeping on the floor you should be grateful

airbnb is a good option but when I searched for places to stay in Lagos it was very easy to see which ones actually got their friends to write reviews for them so that you immediately knew something must be odd about the property, I eventually stayed in one in Ikoyi and it was okay

I don't know if people are actively doing it, but if you have construction knowledge, resources, and know how to make things happen in Nigeria, you can eat well from building cheap and doing airbnb.

building the cheap ? what happened the last time a building collapsed? what were the causalities involved? Whilst you are right about Airbnb - security, value and service level including safety of the structure in question should be one of the major things to consider before venturing into such a business

Cheap doesn't mean poor quality. I'm talking about this from an American perspective where insiders who know a lot about construction can put a property up for a fraction of the cost. They spend less because they don't rely on someone else's expertise. For example, they know exactly what needs extra money, and where they can/should go cheap, and where to get good materials at competitive prices. I'm not talking about endangering lives. I'm talking about people leveraging expert and insider knowledge.
