Help! Brain Box Was Stolen And No Other Brain Box Seems To Work With The Car. by sharpman1(m): 5:46pm On Mar 01, 2011 |
Hi all. I bought an American specs 2006 Toyota Corolla CE in December 2010. After registering the car, i took it to my house and the same night someone scaled the fence into the compound, broke the windscreen and stole the BRAIN BOX. I thought the problem will be solved by simply getting another brain box and doing the necessary programming. After the brain box was installed, the car seemed to work fine but after some time, the car would go off and even when it is on, it would not raise no matter how much u press the accelerator. Other brain boxes has been tested and the problem keeps reoccurring. Please i need help, i never even wash the car. 2 Likes |

ECU's may look the same, but differ internally. The part numbers must match - even just one different digit can make all the difference. Are you positive the ones that have been tried are the right ones for your car? I know it's difficult, as you don't have the original part number to compare with. Typically, in the United States, ECU's can differ dependent on the state the car's sold in. California, for example has very strict emission laws, and the ECU for any given car will be different to that fitted to the same car in Arizona. Some questions: 1) What's the engine capacity of your car? 2) What's the engine configuration of your car - I4 or V6? 3) Where was the initial ECU programming done? 4) Is your car auto or manual? It may help, if you are able to get the original transpondered key to match any ECU you obtain for fitment. Some ECU's are not easy to programme, some are impossible. Posting the ECU part number, as well as your VIN could be helpful. Do you know what State your car was originally sold in in the US? 2 Likes |

sharp man: The best way to know the best fit is to go with the VIN. You take the VIN to the Toyota dealership and they can tell you exactly the ECU number. Thats the way to solve the problem. You cannot just be throwing in any type of ECU because it fits. Good luck. 2 Likes |

I'll run a check, matching an ECU to the VIN you supplied. For reference, could you please post the part numbers of the ECU's you've tried so far? Thanks. 1 Like |

I've run checks, matching your supplied VIN to the ECU's that would be fitted to your car. You have a choice of two, both are compatible. The part numbers are as follows: 1) 89661-02D01. 2) 89661-02D21. The numbers should be on the casing, and the ECU is located at the right-hand side of the dash, in a left-hand drive car. For reference, an image of choice #1 is shown below: Any numbers, other than the ones posted above, will not run your car. 2 Likes |

Sharp, did you get the part numbers of the previous ECU's your mechanic tried? It would be interesting, to cross-reference, and see what models they were meant for. 1 Like |

Siena, Thanks. good one Bro. I have an issue with a 95/96 camry shock absorber, when i bought the car few months ago from US, the mechanic suggested i change all the shock absorbers. Since then i have been having issues, when i am speeding and run into a depression on the road followed by a sharp rise I hear and feel a loud bang noise around the shock absorber area as if the car body is hitting the ground but later people told me that its the shocks hitting the body of the car. Do you have any suggestion? |
Re: Help! Brain Box Was Stolen And No Other Brain Box Seems To Work With The Car. by Nobody: 5:11pm On Mar 15, 2011 |
It's very common for mechanics to fit new dampers, but fail to fit the bump stops that come with the originals. Without these, the damper pistons will bottom out on full depression. This will cause them to produce a 'knocking' sound over bumps. Worth noting, there are different spec dampers for the Camry - sport and standard. Sport dampers have shorter pistons, as sport models have shorter springs. Sport and standard dampers are not interchangeable, unless the corresponding springs are replaced at the same time. Sport springs are stiffer, and shorter than standard. |

Siena, assuming you are Nigerian. . . . . . . . you should consider relocating to naija. . . . . and set up an auto-medic shop. . . . we need people like you around. Meanwhile, if u have people you can recommend, it would also be a good idea. |

big father: LMAO! @ Sharp: Yes, I'm Nigerian, and have been considering setting up a fully equipped Diagnostic, Service and Performance Autocentre in Lagos or Abuja. The issues are getting the right person to run the place, someone who's as passionate about the Automobile as I am, as I don't live in Nigeria. If I did set up though, I would be spending the winter season in Nigeria, returning to the UK for summer. Decisions, decisions. 2 Likes |

Sienna, Ive been following your advice and feel you might have an advice for me. I bought an X5 3.0 2001 model off a seller on Nairaland but was sold a lemon unfortunately. prob is I had a trans fails safe prog on the car in November last year and finally the gear did not engage at all. The mech adviced to buy another auto transmission gear unit which I did, but after fixing the transmission, the gear box engages with a lot of difficulty and from time to time the trans failsafe prog comes on and the car halts in the middle of the road. Hence I use the manual option to drive (Its streptronic). Howeve even with the manual if it accelerates to much it halts on the way, and have to switch off and start the car all over. Question is it the gear that I bought that is faulty or should my mech have done some work on the brainbox for the gear. Please help out with any advice as I am deperate. |

Sorry my brother, where did this happen? i had the same ugly experience with my Toyota Corrolla (2006) Dubai brand. The initial technician i got was trying out lots of ECUs to no avail having tried over 4 units. I finally got a good contact to a technician that was able to source the appropriate ECU that fits and he had to do some recoding to get it to work. Thanks to God my car finally came alive just yesterday. Those criminals MUST burn in Hell. Let me know how i can help you out. Henrolla |
