1.ROUNDWORM(Ascaris)
Roundworm are 20 to 30cm long and pick or white in colour.

Transmission:
They are transmitted through faeces to the mouth.It mostly spread through lack of cleanliness,the roundworm eggs pass from one person's stool to another person's mouth.

Effect on Health:
Once eggs are swallowed,young worms hatch and enter the bloodstream;this may cause general itching.The young worms are then travel to the lungs sometimes causing dry cough or ,at worst pneumonia with coughing of blood.
The young worms are coughed up,swallowed, and reach the intestines where it grow to full size

Other symptoms of roundworms in the intestines includes;discomfort,indigestion
and weakness.children with may roundworms often have very large,swollen bellies.In rare occasions roundworm may cause asthma, or a dangerous obstruction or blockage in the gut.

Treatment:
Mebendazol and piperazine will usually get rid of roundworms.For home remedies/cure use papaya(pawpaw)mixed with honey

WARNING:Do not use thiabendazole for roundworms.It often makes the worms move up to the nose or mouth and can cause gagging.

THREADWORM(Pinworms,Enterobius)
Threadworms are 1cm long and white.They are very thin and threadlike.

These worms lay thousands of eggs just outside the anus(add hole).This causes itching,especially at night.When child scratches,the eggs stick under his nails,and are carried to food and other objects.In this way they reach his own mouth prep mouth of others, causing new infections of threadworms.

Threadworms are not dangerous.They only cause itching which may disturb a child's sleep.

A child who has pinworms should wear tight diapers or pants while sleep to keep him from scratching his anus.Also putting Vaseline in the anus can help stop itching.

Mebendazole or a drink made from garlic can be use for treatment of threadworms.
The best way to prevent worms is by cleanliness.

WHIPWORM (Trichuris, Trichocephalus)
Whipworms are 3 to 5cm long and pick or grey in colour..

Like roundworm it is passed from faeces to mouth.It can be prevented the same way as round worm.
Mebendazole is the best medicine for treatment.

HOOKWORM
They are 1cm long and red in colour.
These worms cannot be seen in the faeces.A stool analysis is needed to prove that they are there.The worms suck blood,and can cause anaemia.
Hookworms enter the body through the feet.Hookworms are more common in adults and is very dangerous if not treated.

Hookworms can be treated with Mebendazole or albendazole.Treat anaemia by eating food rich in iron and if necessary by taking iron pills.

TAPEWORM
In the intestines,tapeworm grow as several meters long.
People get tapeworm from eating pork(pig meat),beef(cow meat) or other meat that is not well cooked.
To prevent this worm be careful that all meat is well cooked,especially pork.Make sure no parts in the centers of roasted meat are still raw.

Tapeworms in the intestines sometimes causes mild stomach aches,but few other problems.
The greatest danger exists when the cysts (small sacs containing baby worms)get into a person's brain.This happens when the egg pass from his stool to his mouth.
Anyone with tapeworm must follow all guidelines of cleanliness carefully and get treated as soon as possible.

Treatment:Take niclosamide or praziquantal
