A mum faced backlash after she bought her nine-year-old a pricey Mercedes Benz car.

Roxy Jacenko spent an eye-watering $84,500 AUD (around £46,000) on the luxury vehicle for her daughter Pixie.

Even though her child is too young to drive, the PR mogul insists she purchased the motor for its “extra safety features”.

She told news.com.au : “It's of utmost importance to me that both she and her brother Hunter travel safely on the roads when going to and from school so I purchased a car for her.

“Obviously she doesn’t drive it, she is driven in it as is her brother to and from school and for any activities…

“Given the number of fatalities on our roads their safety is so important so if it means buying a car that has extra safety features that’s what I’ll do.”

The Australian businesswoman’s explanation hasn’t gone down well with everyone.

On Instagram, she was criticised for sharing a picture of the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class.

She showed the car being serviced, writing: “Visits today from the finautofinishing for Pixie’s car.”

One commenter remarked: “Seriously? A car for someone who can’t drive for how many years.”

Another said: “Please tell me this is a stitch up! It has to be!”

A third asked: “How can a child have a car?”

And a fourth added: “What use does the car have to a nine-year-old?

“Trying not to judge, I’m just trying to understand.”

Despite the backlash, some defended Roxy and agreed safety is important when buying motors.

A commenter said: “Roxy I have the same car and agree. Safety first no matter what their age is.”

Another remarked: “Lovely car! And just in case people are silly I’m sure Pixie doesn't have a licence yet but one day she will.

“So what. Good on Roxy and Ollie for being successful enough to buy their kids cars.”

And a third admitted: “If we all had the chance to do the same, we would.”

"How can a child have a car?"

Lol... that was a sincere question from an online user who couldn't relate. The person might not necessarily be poor but it's obvious he/she isn't in the wealth level of the woman. People need to understand that the availability of resources changes the mindset. It's possible the car would be dedicated to driving the baby boy to and from school and other school gatherings. The woman could have bought the car for herself and used it for solely the same purpose, and no one would complain. But the moment it's in the boy's name, people start wondering how a kid could own a car. Keeping assets for your kids, cash or kind, is never a bad idea. The world is hard enough, anything to make their lives easier is welcome. They mustn't suffer cause you suffered to make it. Those who suffer don't always turn out better. A happy child makes for a kind adult.
