FG Extends Deadline For NiN Registration by lalasticlala(m): 7:42pm On Dec 21, 2020
The federal government on Monday announced an extension for Nigerians to connect their National Identification Number (NIN) to their telephone numbers.

Last week, communications minister Isa Patami said any telecom subscriber that failed to submit NIN to its network provider within two weeks would be blocked from December 31.

Following criticisms from citizens, however, subscribers with NIN have now been given three weeks’ extension to get their NIN linked with their mobile lines; while those without NIN are given six weeks to get their NIN and link it to their lines.

This was announced in a statement jointly issued by Director-General, National Identity Management Commission, Aliyu Aziz, and his Nigerian Communications Commission counterpart, Umar Danbatta, on Monday.

“Three (3) weeks extension for subscribers with NIN from 30th December, 2020 to 19th January, 2021; and “Six (6) weeks extension for subscribers without NIN from 30th December, 2020 to 9th February, 2021”, the statement reads.

Peoples Gazette reported how the initial December 31 deadline threatened disconnection of over 163 million telecom subscribers.

Nigeria is a country where all federal ministries have an informal rivalry to ascertain which can make life most hellish for Nigerians.

One ministry will just wake up one day and decide that because it has been long its voice has been heard, it will formulate one yeye policy.

I was never perturbed about the two weeks ultimatum because I know the telecoms who have the most to lose will lobby the government with billions of naira to look the other way and let business go on as usual.

Wait for it, another ministry will shake the polity before year end to try and outdo the ministry of communication.

Being a Nigerian is stress itself!
I never thought of rushing to do this registration.
Sparogatively still not considering doing it yet, because I can't compound my life with additional stress.

The few of us clamouring for an online registration process would continue doing so as much as we can, untill they listen to us.

...and if they don't¿
We'll register for it when we are stressed less.
