The Ballon d'Or is the most prestigious soccer honor in the world that any soccer star looks forward to every year. The prize, which was created by the French publication France Football, has been recognized as the best in the game for the past 64 years.

In 2019, Lionel Messi was the permanent recipient of the trophy, where he was voted ahead of Van Dijk and Real Madrid hero Cristiano Ronaldo. In the 63rd edition, he went home six times with the coveted soccer award for a record.

Unfortunately for his opponents, the 64th version that should have taken place in 2020 was postponed due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic that stopped the free flow of the game for over four months.
