Yes,
The present calendar we use was devised 1500 years ago in the year 525 by a monk called Dionysius Exiguus
He based it on the year that Jesus of Nazareth was born and called that Year 1 or AD 1. So we adopted events before his birth as B.C. Before Christ and events after his birth as A.D. Anno Domini (latin for in the year of our Lord). The full phrase is "anno Domini nostri Jesu Christi", which translates to "in the year of our Lord Jesus Christ".-(Wikipedia)

How did he determine the year of the birth of the Christ? Its believed he used the figures given in Luke referring to the 15th year of the reign of the Roman Emperor Tiberius Caesar. Before this, the method used was Diocletian years, named after a Roman Emperor who persecuted Christians.

It has also been speculated by Georges Declercq[16] that Dionysius' desire to replace Diocletian years with a calendar based on the incarnation of Christ was intended to prevent people from believing the imminent end of the world. At the time, it was believed by some that the resurrection of the dead and end of the world would occur 500 years after the birth of Jesus. The old Anno Mundi calendar theoretically commenced with the creation of the world based on information in the Old Testament. It was believed that, based on the Anno Mundi calendar, Jesus was born in the year 5500 (5500 years after the world was created) with the year 6000 of the Anno Mundi calendar marking the end of the world.[17][18] Anno Mundi 6000 (approximately AD 500) was thus equated with the end of the world[19] but this date had already passed in the time of Dionysius.-Wikipedia

In recent years though, BC has widely become BCE( Before Common Era) and AD has become CE (Common Era) to make it more universal and less Christian.

Several years ago, an error was detected. It was discovered that Herod the Great who ordered the massacre of the babies died in 4 B.C. If Herod was alive at the birth of the Christ according to the Bible, then Jesus could not have been born in AD 1.

Thus Jesus was born in 5 B.C. and not 1 AD. It was too late to change the calendar; but fact is fact. This year is 2025 years after the birth of the Christ, next year is 2026 after the birth of Christ!

Thats Fact and you can take it to the bank!

Whether 2021 or 2026 it doesn't matter. As long as the date is uniform and everyone use it, its accurate enough.

Your are as uncertain as the rest of the world. The write-up is based on speculations and assumptions as it is filled with "it was speculated" , "It was believed".. How can speculations and assumed beliefs be taken as facts??

Oga I no fit laff you. It's 2021 After the death of Christ not after his birth. So if we are to calculate the year after his birth it might even be 2040 or 2030.

Oga! The calendar was structured from after the death of Jesus Christ and not Before nor during. So its A.D. plus that's not our problems now. Just live ryt by him and do good. All these are inconsequential. There is a particular country that is even like 20yrs behind other country. Wat do u say about dat?

You see the reason why I don't celebrate new year like my neighbors that disturbed my night rest with noise and loud music because I see new year just like the way I see other days.
