Brief history of Ofala festival:

The Ofala Festival is an annual ceremony practiced by Igbo people, particularly the indigenes of Onitsha, Umueri, Umuoji and other neighboring communities such as Aguleri, Nnewi and Ukpo in Dunukofia Local Government Area.

 It serves as a rites of renewal of the king or Igwe or Obi and it is similar to the Igue festival in Benin and the Ine, Osi or Ogbanigbe Festival in many mid-West Igbo communities of Nigeria. The term ofala, is derived from two Igbo words - ọfọ (English: authority) and ala (English: land).

The festival is celebrated within two days mostly in October by the Obi (English: king) and is a customary obligation that must be performed every couple of years without fail

It was all joy at Amaigwe Aguleri yesterday the 2nd of January 2021, during the 121st Ovala Aguleri and 2nd Ovala festival of Eze Aguleri, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Mike Idigo(Eze Udo-1) when he crowned the indefatigable national chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA, Ọzọnkpu Dr Victor Ike Oye with the most revered chieftaincy title of AKAAMALU AGULERI during the spectacular Ovala festival with the theme: Amala Chineke (Grace of God).

The APGA Boss who arrived the Aguleri royal arena with his dear Wife, Iyom Mary Oye, was warmly received at the Amaigwe by prominent Aguleri Royal cabinet members which included, the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Chief Dr Willie Mmaduaburochukwu Obiano ( Akpọkuedike Aguleri), Hon Chief Chinedu Obidigwe ( Akaomajideaku Aguleri), member representing Anambra East and West in the national assembly, Chief Primus Odili (Okosisi Aguleri), Chief of staff to HE, Chief Tony Oli (Omenakochi Aguleri) who doubles as the Chairman of the planning committee of the Ovala festival, with a loud ovation from sons and daughters of Aguleri, who trooped out in their thousands at the royal palace arena to cheer up the national chairman of APGA under whom their son, Gov Willie Obiano won 21/21 in the governorship election in 2018.

Chief Austin Oguejiofor (Onwa Enugwu Ukwu And Okutalikwe Aguleri) added flavour to the ceremony when he led his friends which included Hon Eddie Ibuzo, house of assembly member, High Chief Uche Nworah (Ezeudo), MD ABS and host of others to a royal dance with APGA national chairman round about the arena.

APGA National Chairman was accompanied by major Stakeholders of APGA, led by Sen Sir Victor Umeh (Ibobo Aguleri), former national chairman of APGA, the national critical stakeholder, High Chief Ezeokafor, the founder of Jesco Oil, and Chief Sir Francis Nwakanma Uduakommili Achalla, MD/CEO Petals Cosmetics.

Others on the entourage of APGA national chairman are, the national legal adviser of APGA, Bar Sly Ezeokenwa, representing the national working committee of APGA, the majority leader of Anambra state House of Assembly, Hon Dr Nnamdi Okafor, Hon Chukwuma Okoye, Hon Chief Dr Sir Cater Dike Umeh, Hon John Nwokoye, all of Anambra state House of assembly, Hon Nchekwube (Dunga), APGA Anambra state Auditor.

Political appointees of Governor Willie Obiano which includes, Hon Chief Nwofor, Hon Nnanna Nzewi, Hon Mazi Takuso, Hon Prince Chinedu Eri, Hon Chucks Ụloka amongst others, were also on the entourage of the hard working national chairman of APGA.

The hallmark of the title taking was when, Governor Willie Obiano, who is also the national leader/BoT Chairman of APGA hosted the APGA national chairman, Ozonkpu Dr Victor Ike Oye and his high powered entourage after the chieftaincy title, at his country home in Aguleri.

Congratulations Ozonkpu Dr Victor Ike Oye ( Akaamalu Aguleri), the indefatigable national chairman of our great Party APGA.
