Victory for Bobi Wine as court rules in his favor

A Ugandan court has ordered security forces to cease surrounding the home of the country's opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine.

The music pop star turned politician was placed under house arrest since mid month after the presidential election. According to his lawyer, his house arrest had drawn international outrage and pressure that negatively painted Uganda's image in the international scenes.

Military troops had blocked the 38 years old fiery politician from leaving his house in a surbub in Kampala city since he casted his vote in the January 14, 2021 general election.

In the court's judgement, the judge ruled and ordered that the state was acting in a manner that contravenes personal freedoms.

To add to that, the state and all its agencies were ordered to immediately vacate his property and reinstate his right to personal liberty.

During the house arrest, Wine was in the company of his wife and 18 month old niece and had ran out of supplies for the toddler.

76 year old Museveni was declared winner of the election with 59% of the total casted votes against 35% of Wine's casted ballots. Bobi Wine however declined to accepted the poll results.

Museveni has held the realm of power from 1986 after defeating Gen Amin.

In a nation where leaders refuse to obey rule of law and use a dictatorship style of government in a democracy era, will they obey the law this time?
