Insecurity: Police Nonchalant Because Of EndSARS Impact — Chinedum Orji by Metrix147: 7:44am On Feb 04, 2021
As the country battles to stamp out insecurity across board, Speaker Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji has said the nonchalant attitude of the police and other security agencies in dealing with the issues is a result of the negative impact the #EndSARS protest had on them last year.

The Speaker who spoke while presiding over plenary on the floor of the Assembly on Tuesday night against the backdrop of attacks in Isialangwa South where a police post was burnt down and security personnel beheaded in cold blood, and Isuikwuato urged the police to rise above their challenges and tackle insecurity with the needed energy.

According to the Speaker, the recent heightened security challenges in parts of the country that were hitherto peaceful won't be far from the hijacked #EndSARS protest.

He said the original intention of the conveners of the #EndSARS protest was thwarted by hoodlums who started destroying people's properties, businesses, and houses, burning down police stations, and carting away firearms in the process.

"What we are witnessing here today is the total nonchalant attitude of the police and other security agencies because of the hijacked #EndSARS protest which hugely affected them negatively. But that should change.

"Also the Laws made by us here and the many resolutions passed by the elected representatives of the people are not being implemented as expected. We have passed the Anti-Grazing Law and I'm made to understand the Governor has given his assent to it. if anybody wants to do Cattle business in the State, the person can do ranching where you buy a piece of land, fence it, and put in the cows there and do your business. In such a way, you don't cross paths with the locals.

"The issue of kidnappings having some colouration of collaboration with some security agencies should also be looked into because it is abominable," he said.

He vowed that the Assembly will make use of the instrumentality of its power to make inquiries from relevant security agencies on what needs to be done to secure the people of Abia.

"As an arm of Government, we have the constitutional powers to invite anybody here to give us some answers to questions we want so we can pass same to our Constituents because we will be failing in our duties if we don't do anything concerning this matter as our people are being kidnapped and shot. If we don't do anything now and the people take laws into their hands, it will only lead to an escalation of an already bad situation" the Speaker said in an emotion-laden voice.

"We need to look deeply into these reoccurring security breaches that have been happening in Isuikwuato and other parts of the state especially the one that just happened in Isiala Ngwa South before it escalates, which might lead to a total break down of law and order", the Speaker said.

The corrupt police have finally endangered the good ones.

The police is demoralised by the nepotism in the system, the non prosecution of arrested criminals if they are from the tribe of the boss in Aso Rock Villa. Poor welfare packages, corruption and greed of the average policeman.
The policeman who recently resigned after 30 years of service because he was not promoted for several years just because he insisted he won't bribe his superiors for promotion did not mention ENDSARS as one of his reasons.
The chain of command is lopsided to favour one region, what are the chances of a Tiv, Ijaw, Itsekiri, Ibibio officer becoming IGP? If they complain they would be told that the president appoints only those he can trust and how does that boost morale?

They have been misbehaving holding the protest as excuse.
It's just their usual laziness

Someone once sold a vehicle I asked him to repair at a ridiculous sum, then absconded. A friend saw the vehicle already registered by another person. He packed outside a bar.
I quickly went to the police to lay a complaint.
Instead of mobilising and follow me to the site, I was told to go and stand in front of the bar and watch the guy until he comes out then I should give them a call.
That was 2014 before endsars

Them dey mad. No one regrets the Endsars protests one bit. Did the protest happen for no reason?
As a matter of fact those goats are already even back to their old ways, just that people now stand up to them more than before.
They are claiming that Endsars demoralized them; it demoralized them from fighting crime but not from their old habits.
The Nigerian police force is a cursed institution.
As if they were fighting crime before the protests.

The police in Nigeria is only good for one thing and that is exactly where the problem lies...

Arrest and detain innocent citizens then collect money for bail, that's all...

If the government can outlaw any form off bail outside the court, then it might just be a good way to start in the right direction...

What was the impact of Police before EndSARS?

Eastern Security Network can easily fill the gap of the now defunct and comatose NPF.

No time for nonsense.

Who would be happy seeing the corpse of their colleagues eaten by some bastard cannibals?!

We wonder what the young children of the murdered policemen will do to the bastards who murdered and turned the corpse of their fathers to Nkwobi or Peppered ponmo (when they come of age)
Especially as the pictures of the ritualists are splattered everywhere online.
There must surely be repercussions for this Dastardly act.
Karma has everyone's address.

No policeman will ever ever be happy seeing that, even in saner climes.

Useless lazy thieves looking for excuses to be irresponsible. If they are tired of the job they should just quit and let everyone protect him or herself. Even when they were “active” All they do is extort motorists and intimidate the young ones.

The most useless security agency worldwide. Bunch of lunatics.

Stinking Incompetence from FG to all security outfits in Nigeria smells to high heavens.
How can you say the impact of EndSARS is an excuse for avoiding security responsibilities?
Very Lame Excuse
Anyways they should know that nature doesn't accept vacuum and security and self defense is a natural instinct.

Proactivity Leads To Productivity!!!!

If this NPF guys are not ready to work because we asked that Sars be dissolved and be properly restructured, then they should just resign. And stop wasting our hard earned tax payers' money on their salary.

The issue of kidnappings havie some colouration of collaboration with some security agencies.

The Nigerian security services have lost the moral right to fight crimes. The innocent ones among them, if any, have given up every hope of a change in their abominable acts. So, they are just there to make money either by hook or by crook.
