Professional bodies and institutions are established for regulatory purposes. They decide, maintain, and regulate the ethics of practice and conduct of professionals in their respective professions. Below is a list of professional bodies in Nigeria with accreditation.

Many of these associations have directories where you can connect with real professionals and they regulated too

Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria (ESVARBON)


Determining who are Estate Surveyors and Valuers.
Determining what standards of knowledge and skill are to be attained by persons seeking to become registered as Estate Surveyors and Valuers and reviewing such standards from time to time for the purpose of raising them.
Securing the establishment and maintenance of a register of persons entitled to practice as Estate Surveyors and Valuers and the publication of the lists of such persons.
Regulating and controlling the practice of Estate Surveying and Valuation in all its aspects and ramifications
Performing the other functions conferred on the Board by the Act. The Board makes rules and regulations that guides the practice of Estate Surveying and Valuation in this country as provided from under section 16 (1) of the Act.

The Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN) is the principal agency and umbrella body of the organized private sector (public and private)

Nigeria Institute of Estate Surveyors & Valuers

The Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) was founded in 1969 by the few qualified General Practice Chartered Surveyors who were trained mainly in the United Kingdom. The Institution was granted government recognition by the enactment of the Estate Surveyors and Valuers (Registration Act) Decree No. 24 of 1975. The first Annual Conference was held at Ibadan in 1969. The Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria (ESVARBON) is empowered to regulate and control the practice of the profession of Estate Surveying and Valuation in the country. The Institution is affiliated to the International Real Estate Federation (FIABCI), Commonwealth Association of Surveying and Land Economy (CASLE), International Federation of Surveyors (FIG), Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria(APBN) AND The International Valuation Standards Council (IVSC).

Nigeria Bar Association

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) is the non-profit, umbrella professional association of all lawyers admitted to the Bar in Nigeria and a member of all statutory bodies that regulate the Nigerian Bar and Bench.The NBA is Nigeria’s foremost and oldest professional membership organisation and Africa’s most influential network of legal practitioners, with over 120,000 lawyers on its roll in 125 active branches across the 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria. It is organised into three practise Sections, eleven Fora, and two Institutes, all supported by one National Secretariat.The NBA is engaged in the promotion and protection of human rights, the rule of law and good governance in Nigeria. It has an observer status with the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights, and a working partnership with many national and international governmental and non-governmental organisations concerned with human rights, the rule of law and good governance in Nigeria and across the world.The NBA offers a unique National platform that is not available to any other Civil or professional organization in Nigeria.The NBA renews its leadership every two years when it elects a new President and other officials. The tenure of elected officials of the NBA runs for two years and is non-renewable.

Nigeria Institute of Quantity Surveyors

The Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors was founded in 1969 by a group of Nigerians who trained, qualified and practiced in the United Kingdom but who upon returning to Nigeria sensed the urgent need to develop the profession of Quantity Surveying in Nigeria by establishing a parallel body to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors of United Kingdom.The Profession of Quantity Surveying is practiced in Nigeria along the same pattern as in the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth countries. In America, they are known as Cost Engineers. Quantity Surveying functions is carried out in other countries under a variety of names. Thus, the role is universal.

Nigerian Institute of Town Planners

The Nigerian Institute of Town Planners is Nigeria’s leading urban and regional planning body. The Institute exists to advance the art and science of planning for the interests of the country. The Nigerian Institute of Town planners was formed on September 5th 1966 by 30 pioneer Town Planners in Lagos

Nigerian Society of Engineers

The Nigerian Society of Engineers is an umbrella organization for engineers in Nigeria. It was founded on 16 February 1958 by a group of young Nigerian Graduate Engineers and students in the United Kingdom and inaugurated at the Nigerian House in London.

Nigerian Institute of Architects

The Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA) was founded on the 1st of April 1960 as an association of independent professional architects with the aims and objectives of fostering friendship amongst members, cater for their welfare and establish mutual support and cooperation amongst them.

Nigerian Institute of Building

The Nigerian Institute of Building is the professional body for Builders and those who are about to be engaged in the Building Profession.

N.I.C.E is an acronym for the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers. NICE is a division of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the umbrella body for all engineers in Nigeria. In an effort to promote understanding among members, the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) encouraged the formation of Divisions along disciplinary lines. The Civil Engineering Division was approved in 1984 by the NSE Council. The mantle on nurturing and coordinating the activities of the Division fell on the Rev. Canon Engr. M. O. Akintobi FNSE, who worked very hard to scale through the initial hurdle of generating the interest of members in the Division.
In December 2001, the Civil Division was institutionalized by the common will of all Civil Engineers in Port Harcourt. Engr. Segun Adedeji then became the Pioneer Chairman. The head of the Division was upgraded to President at an Annual AGM of the Institution in September 2003, with Engr. Chief Adefemi Kila as the first President. The Division has since 1984 been steered by Past Chairmen who have contributed their best to ensuring appreciable growth. It is through their collective efforts that the Division has grown to its present status as a foremost Division/Institution of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.
