8 Ways To Get A Job In Nigeria As A Graduate With 2:2 Or 3rd Class Result by blazepascal(m): 7:27pm On Mar 17, 2021
Getting a job in Nigeria today is one of the most challenging things for graduates with a second class lower (2.2) or 3rd class honours.

Often, during recruitment an organisation will specifically seek for a 2:1 student for a particular job because they believe that they are more educated than trained.

But this is not true. This has consequently increased the number of unemployed graduates in the labor market.

In this article, I will show you How to get a job in Nigeria as a graduate with 2.2 or 3rd class grade

They are as follows:
Change your thinking as a graduate

One important thing a graduate should understand is that leaving school with 2.2 or 3rd class is not that bad or the end of the world.

You can graduate with 3rd class and yet still be successful in life than those that graduated with First Class. For instance, look at people like Bill Gate, Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, Aliko Dangote, etc. Some of them even dropped out of school.

You have to change your attitude towards your certificate and remember that it doesn't determine your success in life.

Discover your Talent Or what you Good at

Exam is not the true test of someone’s knowledge or ability. With a 3rd class honours, you may be a genius in programming, graphic design, etc. That doesn't mean that you are useless. These days when getting a job, they look out for talents, people with certain abilities and skills not just the certificate.

So, you have to discover this talent and exploit it to the fullest.

Boost your confidence and communication skills

People that graduate with 1st class or 2:1 sometimes do not have the ability to communicate fluently or sell themselves properly with the right employer. However, as a student with a third class or 2:2, you owe it to yourself to develop these skills of good communication and boosting your confidence.

Work on improving your communication skills and you’ll have a great chance of convincing an employer to give you the job.

Go for a Professional certifications or Course

So, instead of lying on the grade you made in school, you can choose to boost it. Take short certificate courses and improve yourself the best way you can.

You will be surprised to see how far you will go when you do this. Graduates with professional certifications stand a better chance of getting a good job despite graduating with 2:2 or 3rd class in school.

Gain the experience

Most job opportunities require certain years of experience. Thus, as a graduate you should be more focused on gaining experience in your present job even if its pay is very low. What matters is the experience you are gathering for something bigger than better in the future.

It is a learning curve because whatever experience you gain there will give you an edge over those who finished with First class or 2:1.

Submit your CV in every Prospective Organisation

Try as much as possible to submit your CV in every organisation you desire to work in. Do not see this as a waste of time or money. You never can tell if an interested employer will pick the hard copy of your CV. You may stand a chance.

Build Networks Online and Offline

Be opened to networking in order to meet people both online and offline. This will enable you meet with a plethora of people and eventually get the opportunity to seek advice and consequently get a job.

Social media is another modern instrument that can provide opportunity and persons that can change our lives for good.

Do not appear less serious on it. There are a couple of platforms that you can sell yourself and make employers get attracted to your profile. Open accounts like LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Your employer may be somewhere looking.

And finally, TRUST IN GOD or ALLAH
. In him, there is no Limit to what you can achieve.

I hope this has been helpful?

U people keep citing Bill gates, Mark Zuckerberg and co that they dropped out of school but won't say that the system gave them an avenue to develop themselves.

Nigeria doesn't have that avenue and even if u try to make an avenue for urself, it's as if they are hellbent on crushing people.

If one isn't careful, Nigeria will kill u.

As for all those things wey u write for there, how Yoruba people dey talk am sef? "na ur ori go work for u" or something like that.

Please stop deceiving people with this Bill Gates dropped out, Mark Zuckerberg dropped out!

Do you know who the parents of these people were?

Do you know WHAT made them drop out?

Bill Gates Mum was on the board of 'United Way'. This gave her direct access to the chairman of IBM.

Bill Gates and then co-founder Paul Allen had already founded Microsoft and gotten some level of success in their software company.

A combination of these factors, coupled with the fact that we're talking about the US of A here (the land of opportunities)... helped Bill Gates become what he is today!

Zuckerberg's story is similar...

Please don't discourage people from pursuing and getting serious with their education. Education in Africa is a chain breaker and DESTINY changer!

And to your main post... I will advice 100lvl students in any Nigerian tertiary institution right now, to drop out in first semester if your CGPA is less than 3.0.

Drop out, rewrite JAMB and enroll in a course that's more suited to your strengths ...and of course you must be serious this time!

The points raised by the OP are a 'hail Mary' at least. They will only work for one in one million.

If you graduate with a 2:2 or less, your chances of getting employment in an economy with 33% unemployment rate is so tiny, you may as well forget about trying.

You cant even join the army with that result.

To all undergraduates reading, now more than ever is time to take your studies SUPER SERIOUSLY especially if you plan to make honest and legitimate living in Nigeria.

If you're a graduate with 2:2 or less, take the OP's advice of discovering yourself and build g a SKILL around your discovery.

You have a higher chance of succeeding by selling your skills than waiting for a job in Bubu's Nigeria.
