Twitter in Trouble: Former Trump aide Miller launches social media site GETTR


Former U.S. President Donald Trump's former senior advisor Jason Miller has launched a social media site called GETTR, a source familiar with the matter said on Thursday.

GETTR, a Twitter-style platform with posts and trending topics, advertised itself on the Google and Apple app stores as "a non-bias social network for people all over the world."

The launch, which was first reported by Politico, comes after Trump lost his social media megaphone earlier this year when he was blocked by a slew of platforms after his supporters stormed the Capitol.

The former president was permanently banned from Twitter (TWTR.N) and remains suspended by Facebook (FB.O) until at least 2023 and by Alphabet's (GOOGL.O) YouTube until the company determines the risk of violence has decreased.


Miller has for months teased the Trump team's plans to start a new social media platform but the former president does not appear to have a verified account on GETTR at this point. His involvement in GETTR, which launched in Apple's App Store in mid-June, remains unclear.

A Trump spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for comment and Miller could not immediately be reached for comment.

It's not going to work effectively if they want to compete directly . Every country, including the US itself, is now moving to regulation of social media.

Direct competition might not work since what they offer is only a fraction of what Twitter does & some governments are trying to regulate social media. What they intend to sell after all may not work if social media regulation comes into play.

It anoys me how this social media operates, if it was in western countries, they will flag it and call it violence, hate speech or something but if it was in other countries they will tag it freedom of speech.

Damn!!!! Social media needs serious regulation in local country according to the peculiarity of such country.
