Today my pen decides to bleed the story of pains
Of a nation that took off her glory and adorned itself with garment of shames

61 years after the event that was meant to usher a real new beginning
Maybe it is time to accept the Stark reality
Maybe this country was never meant to be
And facades of lies was the oneness we've preached.

How do you define Independence in a nation who killed it own for asking a better life?
How do you define Independence in a nation where there's different laws for different tribes?
What is Independence in a nation where we can't dream of a new Dawn.

Tomorrow we will hear about scores being killed in anambra,
The internet will report about school girls being kidnapped in maiduguri
Unknown gunmen will kill farmers in ikare ondo
Yet nothing will change, because we keep living under the illusions of oneness and independence.
