The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut 27 water companies over non-compliance with rules and regulations on quality assurance.

The Director-General of NAFDAC, Mojisola Adeyeye, said the action was part of the agency’s efforts towards sustaining good hygiene in the packaged water industry.

Mrs Adeyeye said this at the National Convention of the Association for Table Water Producers of Nigeria (ATWAP) in Abuja on Tuesday. She was represented by the director, public affairs, NAFDAC, Jimoh Abubakar.

“Between January and August this year, we have shut down 27 packaged water industries that are not compliant, they are under seal, they have been sealed up and they will have to comply with good manufacturing practices before they are reopened,” she said.

The event is themed; “Developing a packaged water industry as a catalyst to economic growth and a greener economy in Nigeria.”

There are over 1000 more that haven't been discovered. Nafdac should employ me. I will help fish them out.

Only 27
By the way, they will still reopen all of them. The same NAFDAC officials collected bribes, gave them licences to start even when they didn't meet the minimum requirements. After some months or years, they came for inspection, sealed them and will collect bribes to reopen them even with the companies still not meeting the minimum requirements.

The same way the ministry of Education sealed a lot of private schools for being substandard, announced it to the media and within 2 weeks, they were all reopened

Some leadership shoes will always be difficult to fill.

This present NAFDAC is not active. In fact they should close more than that. There is no compliance mostly all factory in this country.

You guys know your work better., nobody be a living saint amongst us all.but truth is for this agency to perform better, you need to be more proactive before even dishing out ur liscences to people that l make use of well water without any treatment to produce water. You (Nafdac)/ your families might be at the recieving end of that rubbish production. Please let's all do the need full, for a better health and nation.

Why will they not operate illegally when it take 5yrs and budget meant for business startup to bribe before being register with NAFDAC.

Same with EFCC, when you register a new company you are expected to bribe before you are allowed to attend the 1hr SCUMIL lecture before you can setup a bank account with any bank.

All these agencies are killing the dreams of entrepreneurs.
