I didn't mean you literally need to win all the 8games now, but for you to win EURO or Copa America you will need still to play 8games. So the numbers of country participating in a tournament should not be a criteria for discrediting it.

Both Messi and Lewandoski did poorly in Champions league, none of them won it or was name the best player.

In the league they both are almost on the same level, Lewandoski top Messi with some few goals, while Messi top Lewandoski with some few assist. Lewandoski and Messi were not the best players in their respective leagues.

International trophy certainly matters, And definitely makes the big difference. Especially when every country are participating in one tournament or the other.
